Ivory poachers flee Indian villagers after killing elephant

LUCKNOW, India (January 1, 2001) - Ivory poachers poisoned an

elephant in an Indian wildlife reserve over the weekend but were driven

off by furious villagers and forest guards before they could take the

elephant's tusks, officials said Monday.
