Guest guest
LETTER FROM MARIANNE ALVISSE -KUALA LUMPUR - THE STAR - 13.2.01 The other day, while I was on my way home, I witnessed a cruel incident that still haunts me. It was a Tuesday night when I came across a hell driver. Whoever you are, I hope that when you got there, the time you saved by speeding meant something to you or someone else. Maybe I'd feel better if I imagine you were a doctor rushing to deliver a baby or to ease somebody else's pain. Even though all I saw of you were the black shadow of your car and the tail lights as you roared down the road, I know too much about you to believe it. You saw the dog, you stepped on your brakes, you felt the thump, you heard the yelp and then I screamed. Your reflexes are better than your heart and stronger than your courage. I know that for a fact because you stepped on the accelerator and sped away as fast as your car could carry you. Whoever you are and whatever you do for a living, I know for sure that you are a killer. Driving the way you drove that Tuesday night, your car is a murder weapon. If you have a heart, you would at least have stepped down from your car to take a closer look at what you had done and rushed the dog to the nearest vet. But no, you didn't even bother. Within seconds, you had transformed an adorable six month old puppy into a broken, bloodied heap, writhing in pain, fighting for its life. I pray to God that when you hit the dog, you could feel that lump in your throat and that sick feeling in your stomach - even if it was for a brief moment, I have not been able to shake off those feelings since the incident. We reap what we sow. Whatever you do goes right back to you. Think about it. MICROCHIPS FOR IMPORTED DOGS TO CUT RABIES RISK -THE STAR - 23.2.01. Singapore said all dogs brought into the city state from May 1 must be implanted with a microchip matching their veterinary papers to cut down on the risk of rabies and other diseases. The health documents will have to indicate the microchip identification code of the dog besides certifying that the dog has been vaccinated. Examined and found to be healthy and free of various dog diseases, said the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority. The microchips would minimise the introduction of disease by tracing where an infected animal came from. _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
