I went through the letter sent by KACPAW .

There are several shelters in Sri Lanka,

One home is at Dehiwela .They also have some problems with troublesome

neighbours . It is overcrowded.

There are two shelters run by Gangarama Buddhist Temple. One is in the small

island in Colombo.Recently Urban Development authority has demolished the

buildings. Now that has become a fashion .We don`t have money to run the

country but they demolish buildings. It was really pathetic .There were some

poultry also in one big cage. They have to build a new shelter in a new place.

They have another place at Kalalgoda away from the city. They were kind

enough to take a blind dog which was abandoned close to my clinic.

All these shelters seem to manage on their own.I like the shelters run by

Buddhist temples because they feel so natural and animals seem to enjoy the

natural environment. They are easy to maintain .

There is another shelter at Kalutara .It is maintained by Ven .Kalamulle

Gunasiri Thero.

He really suffers with these orphaned dogs and cats. His dogs were poisoned

by neighbours .He really needs help.

Even my house is also like a transit home .i keep one or two dogs at a time.

There are number of small animal shelters in Sri lanka. They manage without

public funds.

..

One is run by manel a retired nurse who worked in U.K .She and I donated

depo-provera(Contraceptive injections to Kotte Municipal area.We used

contraceptive injection with antirabies vaccine to control stray dog population

as a pilot project.

In march 2000 My mother and I donated depo-provera injections to control

stray dog population. Our Municipal decided to make a dog catching van in

year l999.We did every thing to stop that .We collected signatures and sent

petitions.Wrote articles to news
