Guest guest
Why havnt the organisations with a 'presence' in China never, Ever tried to help, or even ever mentioned the millions of German Shepherd dogs and cats- in the case of the dogs being " literally " skinned alive for their fur every year in China? I'm aware the country is vast, the problems huge, and the people who care are few, but that hasnt stopped these same organisations tackling other inhumane animal issues in China. No being should EVER have to die in such torment. jay.
Guest guest
Dear Jay, I am a programme assistant working for International Fund for Animal Welfare, China office. It upsets me by knowing dogs and cats are skinned alive in China. I remember my friend who is a documentary film editor told me that there is a documentary film about the issue presented in a Germany documentary film festival in 1998. I asked a film centre about it after reading your email. They told me that the film is about things happened in German and Thailand. I wonder if you could offer me further details about the case, such as locations of the fur manufacturers and information resource. I feel we have the responsibility to investigate the issue and see what we can do to it. Animal Welfare is still a new concept and practice in China. Not like many countries in Asian, there is no anti-cruelty legislation to protect most of animals, especially animals in captivity in China yet. IFAW has been committed to making a better lives for animals here since its China office was set up in 1994. Among many other projects, currently we are sponsoring experienced lawyers to draft an animal welfare law. We also support a no-killing dogs & cats shelter (the first and only its kind in China) to care and rehome homeless dogs/cats. China is a very big country, and a country with lots of animal welfare problems. Support and help from people like you is very important for us. Thank you very much! I am looking forward to hearing from you! Guest guest
Hello Ya Ya, The documentary film you mention was shown in Germany in 1998, but the film centre are lying when they say the film is only about things happened in Germany and Thailand, I have a copy of the film and it is mainly on China. Most of the information is from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) they did an undercover investigation in China in 1998 exposing the issue, their website is www.hsus.org but the site doesnt seem to have as much info on it now as it use to regards the dogs/cats for fur. Its wonderful to hear that there is someone there who cares! and that at last an organisation in China is taking notice! if ever any animal needed help, surely none could be more in need than these poor souls being skinned alive. Best wishes. jay - I will get back to you with details! - " Zhang, Ya Ya " <yzhang <jay.adams; <aapn > Cc: " Zhang, Aster Li " <azhang Monday, July 22, 2002 5:02 AM Re: German Shepherds Skinned Alive > Dear Jay, > > I am a programme assistant working for International Fund for Animal > Welfare, China office. Guest guest
> We ought to Nuke these Barbarians ! The majority of members of this list are involved in working towards constructive solutions to complex problems. One liners such as the above are not conducive to building the mood of respect for the life of others that most of us consider an essential in our endeavours. John. Guest guest
If you suspect a product may be made from dog or cat fur, you can report it to the US Customs Service at 1-800-Be-Alert.
