S.O.S

Hello,

My name is Carmena Serbanoiu, zoo engineer, and I'm from Tg-Jiu,

Romania.Because the authorities decided mass destruction of the stray dogs

in a barbarian way, situation that happens today too, I've set up the

association of animal protection " Pro Animals " in1999.

Starting that year I saved many dogs from a terriffing dead, many of them I

gave for adoption and other 180 I take care of them in a shelter.

Unfortunately the shelter belogs to the city hall and the authoriries

threathen me , on and on, that if I make public the cruelty acts they do,

they will throw my dogs out of their shelter in the street and will kill

them.

For years I've managing all alone this hard activity and with my own

financial sources. Unfortunately, because of my precarious financial

situation is impossible for me to go on with this activity.

I 'm living in a two room appartment with 8 dogs.

In Tg-Jiu is very, very cold and sometimes the temperature reaches

to -20, -22 degrees.I have only 45 cages (at 180 dogs) and many of them are

staying only outside, in the cold. In Decembre and January , because of the

cold wheather , died many dogs. The shelter is situated in a field and is

not adequate.

I have many pregnant femals and ,unfortunately, I don't have financial

possibilities to neuter/spay them; I have also many puppies.

I don't have food, medicines, a vet because I can't afford to pay him. I do

the work in the shelter with a woman I have to pay.

I'm in a situation without way out.I;m disparate I can stand watching how

they tear eachother, how they bite untill dead because of the lack of food. I

would have to find a solution butI don't want to be an extreme

one:euthanasia.

Maybe you or other organisation or persons can do something to rescue this

dogs. maybe you have the possibility to solve the situation of the stray

dogs from the entire town by drawing up a common project that means building

a shelter , neutering and adoption in a civilised way .

If we don't find any solution all the dogs from the shelter and from the

city will have a tragically end. Also in the future, the authorities will use

the same ways of extermination: poisoning, starving untill dead, shooted,

hitted with sticks in the head, injections into the dogs hearts with

gasoline , dumping in the forests........

I beg you to hold out a hand of help to this innocent creatures.

thank you,

carmena serbanoiu

I know Einstein also had a good quote, but I can not find it anymore. Maybe

somebody else knows it.

Have a great day!

Quote of Rescue

--Written By Albert Schweitzer,(Christian Century, November 28, 1934)

" Let me give you a definition of ethics: It is good to maintain and further

life it is bad to damage and destroy life. "

Quote of Faith

--Written By Mother Teresa

" I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that he

didn't trust me so much. "

Tribute To A Dog

--Written By George Graham Vest - c. 1855

" Gentlemen of the Jury. The best friend a man has in the world may turn

against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared

with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to

us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become

traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies

away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be

sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to

fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first

to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world,

the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or

treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in

poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where

the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near

his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will

lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the

world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When

all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation

falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey

through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the

world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege

than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against

his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his

master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no

matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will

the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in

alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death. "

George Graham Vest (1830-1904) served as U.S. Senator from Missouri from

1879 to 1903 and became one of the leading orators and debaters of his time.

This delightful speech is from an earlier period in his life when he

practiced law in a small Missouri town. It was given in court while

representing a man who sued another for the killing of his dog. During the

trial, Vest ignored the testimony, but when his turn came to present a

summation to the jury, he made the following speech and won the case.

Quote Of Humanity & Inspiration

--Written By Ralph Waldo Emerson

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the

affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure

the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in

others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a

garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has

breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. "

Quote Of Compassion

--Written By Dalai Lama

" Compassion and love are not mere luxuries. As the source both of inner and

external peace, they are fundamental to the continued survival of our

species. "

Quote OF Fear

--Written By Chief Dan George

" If you talk with the animals they will talk with you and you will know each

other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them, and what you do

not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys. "
