The deaths have been reported from the forests of Dewas district, around 150 km south of here, over the last three days following a heat wave and a resultant water shortage. A forest official told IANS that the dead monkeys had been sent for post-mortem. " But preliminary studies say the animals died due to the heat wave and because water bodies in the forests are drying up, " said the official. The official said herds of monkeys had started thronging villages near the forests in search of water.
