Guest guest
7/16/2004 Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh (WTB) and India-based Global Tiger Forum (GTF) have agreed to work together to conserve tigers both in Bangladesh and India, reports UNB. The consensus came at a meeting on tiger conservation, held in the office of the Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh in city Thursday. Addressing the meeting, GTF Secretary General SC Dey emphasised the importance of raising public awareness through mass media to conserve tigers in the region. " Bangladesh should adopt participatory concepts and the inhabitants of the Sundarbans be provided with alternative works to earn their livelihoods by taking long-term measures to help conserve the tigers, " he said. He urged the Bangladesh government to preserve the tigers of the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest, by enforcing the existing laws relating to tiger conservation. About the role of non-government organisations in protecting the tigers, SC Dey called upon the concerned NGOs to come up with programmes to conserve tigers through broader frameworks. The WTB members at the meeting mentioned that its researchers joined the recent tiger census in the Sundarbans. It would organise a workshop for conversing tigers in collaboration with Zoo Outreach Organization soon. full story: http://www.financialexpress-bd.com/index3.asp? cnd=7/16/2004 & section_id=6 & newsid=16039 & spcl=no ~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~*+*~~~~*+*~~~ Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar.
