It is a great idea to have a conference on the mentioned issues; however I

am afraid this is too expensive for most of the NGO's as it is held in

Singapore. Cost of attending, overpriced hotels and the flights add all up.

As so many rich organizations seem to sponsor it why can it not be free so

smaller NGO's can attend as well?

I think this conference is a great idea. Edwin, while I understand the

plight of smaller NGO's, in this case the organizer is in Singapore. So he

has lower organizing costs because he can leverage local contacts. If you

do a search, there are many hotel rooms under US$35-40/night, hardly

" overpriced " when you factor in that Singapore is a major urban center. And

with the discount airfares to be had, I frankly do not understand do not

understand your complaint. People have to fly and stay anyway, and

Singapore is very competitive when it comes to flying in and out. Not

everything happens in Bangkok.

Dear Edwin,

1. It is indeed important to have a conference to discuss pertinent animal

welfare issues and consolidate experiences in the region with an eye to

developing new strategies and facilitating change.

2. The conference fees are priced at US$85 for the whole conference which

is amongst the cheapest conference ever.

3. The sponsors are already providing a sponsorship US$60 per attendee, in

addition to providing full sponsorship for the conference and accommodation

for people who require funding to attend the conference.

4. We've selected a wide of hotels with one accommodation costing only US$7

a night.

5. Singapore is now a hub for budget airlines. Airtickets from Bangkok to

Singapore return now costs only US$70 on Tiger airways.

As mentioned above, we do provide sponsorship for attendees who require

funding to attend the conference. If you would like to apply, please

contact us at events

We look forward to your attendance at this conference.

Louis and Kristen,

Both thanks for your reply. I did not write this as a complaint but as a

question. I know of several NGO's in Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia that

might be interested but can probably not afford these costs. I was not

talking about our own organization. Bangkok is not my favorite destination,

Kristen.

It is good to see in your reply that these people can ask for sponsorship

and I will forward the information to these people.

If the Thai authorities do not lock me up again around that time, and the

Singapore government does allow us to speak freely our opinion I will be

definitely be there.
