Urgent: Your Help is Needed to Save Dogs this Summer

Every year, countless dogs die after being locked in cars in hot weather. These

deaths are entirely preventable. Many people simply don't realize how quickly a

closed car can become a death trap for a companion animal. To combat this

tragic trend API has once again launched the national campaign My Dog is Cool.

Whether distributing our educational flyers or working with media, car

manufacturers, and local governments, API is aiming to make this season a safe

one for companion animals and their families but we need your help. What You

Can Do: Here are a few ways that you can save the lives of dogs this summer.

For a complete list of actions you can take please visit the new My Dog is Cool

website at http://www.mydogiscool.com

Make a pledge to keep your dog cool and your voice will be heard in our campaign

to prevent dogs from dying in hot cars. We'll even post your photo and pledge

in the " My Dog is Cool " photo gallery! Visit

http://www.mydogiscool.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=8 for more information.

Download or order API's " Don't Leave Me in Here - It's Hot! " flyers.

Keep a stack handy for whenever you're out and about. When temperatures rise

and you see a dog in a parked car, slip the flyer under the car's windshield

wiper. When the dog's guardian returns to the car, he or she will find the

educational flyer and will think twice about leaving his or her companion in a

hot car again. This flyer saves lives! Go to

http://www.mydogiscool.com/b_flyer.php for more information. Ask your local

shops, supermarkets, restaurants, libraries, and other public places to help

educate people about the dangers of leaving a dog in a car in the summertime by

distributing " Don't Leave Me in Here -

It's Hot! " flyers to their patrons. You can also print API's " Hot Temperature "

warning sign for your local businesses to display. Visit

http://www.mydogiscool.com/b_flyer.php for more information. Write a Letter to

the Editor of your local newspaper warning people about the dangers of leaving

dogs in hot cars. You can use the following letter to the editor (Acrobat PDF)

as a guide when writing to your local paper. To view the sample letter visit:

http://www.mydogiscool.com/downloads/MDIC_sample_letter.pdf. Don't forget to

check your paper's Letter-to-the-Editor guidelines for restrictions on word

length and other submission requirements. Get involved with our efforts to

encourage car manufacturers to take a stand for animals. Car manufacturers

often include warnings about leaving children in hot cars; the time has come for

those warnings to include companion animals, as well! Visit,

http://www.mydogiscool.com/b_manufacturer.php, to see the latest on this effort

and how to submit information about your car company. We will keep you updated

on progress we make, and let you know which companies to reward, and those that

will need further action. Contact API at mydogiscool for information about

how to pass an ordinance in your community relating to leaving animals

unattended in a vehicle. As the temperatures climb, we're doing all we can to

prevent dogs from dying in hot cars. To learn more about how API keeps dogs

safe when summer sizzles, go to www.MyDogIsCool.com http://www.mydogiscool.com/

.. You can contact us at (800) 348-7387 or mydogiscoolfor more information.
