Dear Praveen,

The best would be to travel a bit looking at the various shelters nearest to you

and the best acknowlwedged ones.

It is difficult for you to draw up plans and ideas just looking at the photos or

writeups of the many shelters which could be understood different than what you

see in thepictures.

The first idea that comes to my mind is your immediate requirements and for that

your local building materials that are available.

We build our shelter and still building with local materials blended with

natural boundaries (free).

Let me know what you think.

Regards,

Pradeep.

Dear All,

Thank you for this wonderful information. There are no animal shelters in

Okinawa, the shelters that the Okinawan-American Animal Rescue Society is

presently assisting are but only the makeshift structures from one or two

individuals that have gathered scrap materials from anywhere they can find them.

OAARS is trying to save animals from being gassed, unfortunately even that is a

big political task. The Animal control center will be remodeling their holding

facility, this only means that animals will be held for less time and all will

be put with the many that would be gassed, not waiting for the owner to claim

and therefore exposing all animals to more diseases. The remodeling will in no

way save animals or hold them for adoption, any animal over three months old

captured by Animal control is gassed after three-five days at the center. We

hope to have the officials at the center allow OAARS to take animals from their

facility and find homes for them. They have guidelines that make it almost

impossible to adopt an animal, they have a one animal per family limit.

Again, thank you for this information, hopefullly in the future we can get some

donations to make a no kill shelter a reaility in Okinawa.

What Leo Grillo has a video of is a straw-bale doghouse and not a

shelter. Hay in Asia is not formed into square bales, and so the

plans would not be useful.
