Guest guest
Dear Tom,

The Sri Lankans are fighting a vicious war of complete brutality. It is an ethnic, religious, language war. They have been fighting for decades and have said that they do not wish to stop.

You describe it as the last Eden-like spot in the world. It is in fact, hell.

You judgement is so bad, I am not surprised that you think garlic will protect you against malaria. In fact maleria is ubiquitious and some strains will kill you.

Go and see a doctor who specialises in protecting travellers against maleria. And follow her advice to the letter.

Victor. Guest guest
Sri Lanka is a world-class hell hole. They have been fighting a war of such brutality, it is hard for us to imagine. And they are going to continue.

Why would anyone think that Sri Lanka was a paradise unless they were unbalanced.

This is what disturbs me about Raw Food. I was attracted to Raw for health reasons, while it is becoming apparent to me that some, perhaps many, are attracted because they are unbalanced and are attracted to any extreme group who will accept and use them.

We should make it clear we do not wish to use people for our own purposes. We will not take advantage of unbalanced people. We will not claim that Raw Food will cure or even help an unbalanced person.

We accept that the Raw Food Movement will attract the unbalanced because it is seen as extreme. We will advise the unbalanced to seek help elsewhere.

Victor.
Guest guest
My understanding is that study wise, some have show that garlic ~together~ with a standard anti-malarial drug prevented the development of the disease, but, that too speaks of animal studies, which I personally do not trust. That noted, it IS heavily used in native treatments throughout the world with regards to malaria, but, without as far as I know clear enough results to be trusted where " better " options are available, and I really don't know how it sizes up in the realm of preventative measures.

If strictly against vaccination, your best bet would probably be to take care to repel mosquitos, but being as the most reliable means of doing so involves harsh chemical repellants (DEET, for example), my own inclination would be to say take the recommended medical precautions and just be glad it's not something you have to do routinely. That's just what would work for me though ... you'd need to evaluate your own risk. You may want to call a local herbalist/natural medicines practitioner if available and see what they have to say.

----------

(I'm Michelle, by the way, and just joined yesterday .... I tend to be a little more moderate - obviously - than most here, I think, but, from what I've seen you look to be a lovely group.
