Guest guest
Hi all,

In another club there's a debate going on about the history of raw food consumption and advocacy.
It seems some scholars are saying that the Essene religion historically advocated raw food diet.

Other scholars say that this is a pretty streched out interpretation.

Any thgoughts or comments or knowledge about this?

Thanks

LL
Guest guest
When someone mentions religion I break out in a cold sweat, try to hide my wallet, and run like hell. So I am no expert, but it has always been my understanding that the Essenes were raw foodists. There was a program on A & E network around Christmas time about Christ and where he was from the time he was 12 until his 30s some say he went to India and I forget all the other theories. But they (the scholars) felt the most likely place he went, was to the Essenes. His philosophy was identicle to theirs, and he lived, only 4 miles from them. The Essene word for Enima is Baptism. Now this in itself is pretty funny. When you think about Christians performing Baptisims with all the Hokus Pokus and pouring of water over peoples heads. Then you find out they have the wrong end. The reason for Baptisim is to cleanse the person of the original sin. The original sin was eating the forbidden fruit. (which some say was a seed, a mucus food causing problems in the intestine. there is supposed to be mention of this in the bible) So to cleanse the person of the " Original Sin " they needed an enema.

" Seek, therfore, a large trailing gourd, having a stalk the length of a man; take out its inwards and fill it with water from the river which the sun has warmed... enter your hinder parts, that the water may flow through all your bowels... then let the water run out your body... I tell you truly, baptism with water frees you from all these. Renew your baptism with water on every day of your fast, till the day when you see that the water which flows out of you is as pure as the river's foam. " Jesus, THE ESSENE GOSPEL OF JOHN.

Essene bread is a raw bread, although I don't know where the recipes came from. Check out the Essenes web site http://www.essene.org/

Doug
Guest guest
Thanks Doug,

Yeah I've been on quite a few Essene sites. They are really interesting and give some pretty wild interpretations of the events around the incarnation Da Jesus Dude. Really good thought provoking stuff, the gospels of Thomas and the inclusion of women in the hierarchy.

Essene bread is scrumptious. It's sold here in Austin at several place.

This is not an ad but it's the website with a " store locator " to find sources of one company that makes it.

http://www.naturespath.net/essene.htm

Good luck and good munchin.

Jules
Guest guest
I checked out the site that sells " Essene " bread. It is 'Baked' and therefore no more nutritious than a donut, and I'll bet donuts taste a lot better. I emailed them and gave them hell about calling cooked bread, Essene bread, and am still waiting their answer.

Doug
