Guest guest
This was a new one to me: Read in one of the articles collected by Dr. Mercola (www.mercola.com) that higher insulin levels often appear together with high blood pressure. It doesn't necessarily mean one is a diabetic but using too much sugar might be the underlying cause of high bloodpressure. As I said, I had not heard of this before, and certainly worth my while trying this out (that's why I have stopped using all sugar now religiously). The causes for having high bloodpressure are mostly unknown (Essential Hypertension), and in my case I was given the advise to just blame it on my parents, end of story (oh no, not the end, take the tablets of course).
Would it really be that simple. Sugar?

I'd like to hear your opinions on this one because interestingly enough, having consumed quite a bit of carrot juice which is rich in (natural) sugars, my bp was soaring too. Sugars from whole foods such as fruit will not cause any probelms with blood pressure!! Hypertension is not caused by heredity but their may be a genetic pre-disposition.

A low fat, high fiber, devoid of salt, plant based diet combined with a healthy weight and exercise plan is the key to getting over high bolld pressure.

Also a recent study, by Dr Alan Goldhamer, showed that supervised water fasting was one of the best ways to over come HBP solving the problems in over 90% of his patients!

Blake
Guest guest
Hi Blake,

Genetic disposition is the only thing that I would accept as the one thing that I might have inherited re high blood pressure. My diet is - and has been for a long time - low if not void of fat - no salt, mainly raw plant based. I keep reading and learning and one day, I might hit the right button for what works for me. The water fast is one thing that I have not tried, yet. Mainly because I don't want to lose any weight, never was a heavy weight and had to work towards keeping the weight on. But if I'm correct one of the forum members has done the water fast to control bloodpressure. Better ask him about his experience.
Cheers
Hanneke
Guest guest
That's been new to me too. Although I didn't find the article at Dr. Mercola's site I don't think there is a direct connection between sugar intake and high blood presure. I quickly looked at Dr. Mercola's site to find more info, esp. conditions in which the test was held but. It's important, always look for conditions. For example, " they " say you need more antioxydants because they found a defficiency at a sample of people. Such a kind of info has zero value for me. What sample of people, what do the people eat...? You see? And similar way I take the Dr. Mercola's " discovery " with a reserve.
My solution to the sugar-high blood presure conection is as follows:
As well known, the main cause of high bp is excess of salt in a diet. Salt (NaCl)is built up of Sodium. Your body tries to keep Sodium and Potasium in balance. It's smart enough so after a salty food it tells you it feels like something sweet because it knows the only natural source of Potasium (of course, edibl)is a fruit. " Unfortunatelly " almost every fruit is sweet. But what happens when you missunderstand that call of your body and take a processed sugar deplaited of it's natural companion, Potassium? You tend to eat more such a sugar and your Sodium-Potasium balance remains biased toward the Sodium anyway.
Tom
