Guest guest Posted December 23, 2001 Report Share Posted December 23, 2001 Hello everybody..... I just wanted to introduce myself. I am currently a vegan..... but would like to evolve so to speak into a raw foodist. My son is really sick right now with a cough and congested. Should I be giving him all this medicine? Does he need it? Is there another way? He is only 7 1/2 months old so I don't feed him food. I do breastfeed and I don't comsume any animal products so I know that is a plus. What can I do for a sick baby? Please get back to me soon. Thank You!
Amy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted December 23, 2001 Report Share Posted December 23, 2001 Amy,

Try giving your son frequent warm baths. I used Johnsons Vapor Bath for my son when he was younger (he'll be 3 in february) and that really helps the congestion and lets them sleep easier.

I've also seen a infant vapor rub for massaging on their chest to loosen the congestion and get rid of the cough...that could be really helpful too.

If you try those few things, it might speed up the illness so that he doesn't need all those meds in him )

7 1/2 months...He should be eating cereals and mushed fruits and veggies long ago.

Kelly

PS~ feel free to email me if you'd like
shedonteatmeat Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest guest Posted December 27, 2001 Report Share Posted December 27, 2001 Hello Amy,

My son is now four. For the first two years he frequently was congested with a cough. The only " medicine " we give him was one of those natural herb " cough " products but if I were to do it again I wouldn't have given him that either.

What worked best was a hot vaporizer that dispensed eucalyptus oil while he was sleeping. Warm baths also helped which was already mentioned.

We had forced hot air heat in our house without a humidifer. I think the air was too dry for him and us. Two years ago I installed a whole house humidifer on the furnance and I really don't recall him having congestion problems since.

Breastmilk, rest, warm moist air = good.

Oatmeal = bad.

I would hold off on the cereals as long as possible.

-Orionsdad Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
