Guest guest
I agree that protein is in all foods, but not all the amino acids in one food. It seems to me that whoever is eating vegetarian or vegan needs to have a knowledge of how to get their amino acids unless they supplement their diet. We, as Americans, do consume too much protein so unless someone is starving themselves, they should be getting sufficient protein. I am studying holistic nutrition and kinesiology and so this is a very important topic for me.

Marlene
Guest guest
I found the info on protein and amino acids. If anyone else has additional info, please let me know.

Beans can be combined with corn, nuts, rice, seeds and wheat to make complete proteins with all essential amino acids. Protein needs to be made available with carbohydrates and fats. There can be protein deficiencies called Kwashiorkor and maramus. Maramus is starvation where there is no food at all and Kwashiorkor happens mainly to children between 1 and 5 yrs.of age who have been weaned from breast milk and are consuming mostly starches and sugars. It also involves vitamin and mineral deficiencies. High amounts of protein is needed for growing children.
Marlene

Guest guest
Actually I think some of your info is quite old. Kwashiorkor or however it is spelled was found not to be a protein deficiency but instead a calorie deficiency. When they simply increased the calorie consumption the symptoms went away. People who had this condition were simply starving to death.

Also it has been proven that you don't need to have all the amino acids in one meal or even one day. This is just a myth. We have a protein reserve pool that can combine the proteins properly. You just need to get all the amino acids in at a certain point in time. Even this may not be true.

It looks like you got some info from books or sources from the 70's or 80's.

What about babies. Babies grow at the fastest rate that a human will grow during it's lifetime. I've heard that mother's breast milk is anywhere from 1.5% to 7% protein at most. Why should adults need a higher protein percentage than a quickly growing baby? If you get 10% protein I'm sure you'll have more than enough.

There is only one reason people are even worried about protein consumption. Because all through our lives we were brainwashed into making sure we had enough protein. Who brainwashed us? It was the beef and dairy industry so that we would make sure to keep on buying their products. I've been living for the last 6 months 99% raw and vegan except for honey.

I haven't had any problem building muscle. I do weight resistance workouts regularly and have the same muscle mass as previous to going 99% raw. The only thing I lost was a little excess fat and plenty of toxins. In fact I have experienced super health and peak performance in many areas.

If I need something in my diet, my body will tell me. I don't need to calculate the amount of protein I am eating.

What I've found is that the greatest obstacle to doing the raw diet is all the misinformation there is out there. I went to a talk this weekend by Dr. Fred Bisci. He's been a raw foodist for 30 years. He is 73 and his skin looks like that of a 30 year old. No wrinkles, vibrant, and articulate. He tried a precise experiment for 8 years limiting his intake of certain essential nutrients. He took lots of blood tests during this time and he found that there was no drop off in his essential nutrient levels. He discovered that the body can transmute nutrients and turn them into what it needs for survival.

Now it may take a certain amount of time or purity to get to this point. But in my two posts today, I have given everyone two real life examples of people who have broken the so called rules of nutrition and are in fact experiencing fantastic health with no degenerative diseases.

It was for a long time impossible for me to go all raw because of all the misinformation I had. Dr. Douglas Graham really shed the light for me. I attended two outstanding talks he made and he blew away almost every raw food myth that was holding me back. I then tried his ideas and have been at least 99% raw ever since.

Roger Haeske

P.S. Guest guest
The info I have is copyrighted in 1996 and is from a book I got from the School of Natural Healing. Where did you get your info from? I would feel more comfortable accepting your comments if you had something to back it up as being truth. There are also many theories out there about health and if we feel fine, why try fixing something that isn't broken? I need to learn as close to the truth as possible for my education. I don't believe people need to be obsessed with getting sufficiet amino acids, but if you have a long history of family diseases; such as heart disease or cancer, perhaps some of us need to look at all the ways we can prevent these diseases in ourselves.

Blessings,
Marlene
