Guest guest
New Topic!!! Getting back on track. My Naturopath has told me to stay away from juicing wheatgrass. It has slipped my mind as to why though (and I will let you know once I do find out). I do take Barley Green which in my opinion is similar since they are both grasses-one from wheat and the other from Barley. The Barley Green in high doses is amazing. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any research that's pro or con to wheatgrass? Do you juice it and if so, what results have you received? I haven't juiced it, even though I juice just about everything else. Thanks, Regina DeLuca " Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. Guest guest
I've never heard anything bad about wheatgrass. This is a first. The only reason i could imagine is that if you buy it in a store it could be moldy. And i know some places that grow it use bacteriostat. ick. i use hydrogen peroxide to keep out mold and it works well. I drink wheatgrass a lot and like it. It gives me a boost of energy when i'm feeling tired or worn out. WHen i first started drinking it i got a few zits and other little zit-like bumps on my arms. Then they went away and my skin looks pretty darn good, so i believe it was a detox session. I also drank A LOT of it when i had all the mercury amalgam fillings removed from my teeth. Wheatgrass is a natural chelator, so it pulls metals from the body. I'm interested to know why your naturopath said to stay away from it. As for me, i'm a believer, so it would take some pretty convincing stuff with hard evidence to make me stop juicing it. And even then, i don't know that i'd stop because its been such a positive part of my diet. AZ rawfood, Regina DeLuca <regdeluca> wrote: > New Topic!!! Guest guest
Hi I grow my own wheatgrass. Sometimes I get some mold in it and the grass itself are not as thick as the ones I get in wholefoodstores. I even got some insects on it because I grow it indoors. How do you grow it? Do you have any tips? Also do you soak the wheatgrass after cutting in Hydrogen PerOxide to take care of the mold? I get a little bit of energy after drinking wheatgrass. But ia m very very sick right now . so I dont expect miracles. But i didn't have any negative effcts on wheatgrass. I would appreciate if you could share some tips on growing wheatgrass. Guest guest
THERE IS TON'S OF INFORMATION AND 'UNSCIENTIFIC' DOCUMENTATION ABOUT THE POWER OF WHEATGRASS JUICE. AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF WEBSITES THAT YOU CAN CHECK OUT. ALSO, THERE ARE MANY 'SO CALLED' NATURAPATHS THAT HAVE NO CLUE OR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CHLOROPHYLL. IF YOU ARE ANY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE RAW FOODS GROUP NEEDS OR WANTS MORE INFO. E MAIL ME. @THEYELLOWGIRAFFECAFE BARLEY GRASS IS WONDERFUL, ALONG WITH GREEN KAMUT AND BETTER YET THERE IS A RELATIVELY NEW PRODUCT ON THE MARKET CALLED 'GREEN VIBRANCES'. ULTIMATELY, THOUGH A NATURAL SUBSTANCE OR JUICE IS MUCH BETTER. IT COULD BE THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE ALLERGIC TO 'WHEAT' IN GENERAL. PEACE. RA PARIS ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Hi You can call the OptimumHealth Institute of San Diego, 619-464-3346, and I am sure they can connect you to someone who can give you tips on growing your wheatgrass. It is a big part of the cleansing/detoxing program here, and many people have been able to heal themselves that were sick. There's a website also that's www.optimumhealth.org you might want to check it out. Good luck! Bonnie Gayathri Kuppuswamy <gayu_pwc wrote: Hi I grow my own wheatgrass. Guest guest
I will most definitely see what she has to say. She's no average Naturopath though. She's done extensive research herself. That's not to say she's always right though. I find that there is a good deal of literature out there promoting health through Soy, for example, but the real research is starting to come out showing how bad soy (except fermented soy) is for us. I will get her research and get back. Logically, I can't see why wheatgrass is bad though. It has nothing to do with chlorophyll though. We are all aware of how wonderful and essential chlorophyll is. Thanks all for your feedback. Guest guest
Although many people say nothing but good things about wheatgrass, there are indeed people that say it's not very good for you, like Dr. Douglas Graham (www.drgraham.cc). Here's some of the things he posted about wheatgrass on the vegsource raw discussion board (www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html): http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/messages/13816.html http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/messages/12418.html http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/messages/7900.html It makes sense to me that, even though wheatgrass may contain lots of nutrients that are good for you, it may also contain things that are not good for humans, since I agree that grass is not a natural food for humans: it needs to be juiced and doesn't taste very nice. Moreover, like David Wolfe also says, wheat is a very unnatural, strongly hybridized plant. So to get your 'green power', I would also say that at least more wild grasses, like kamut (barley is also better than wheat for the same reason - less hybridized), would be better, and dark green leafy (wild) vegetables, as they are more natural foods. An argument against wheatgrass is that is is very harsh on the body, and makes you feel better because it is a stimulant, a toxic substance. Grains are not natural human foods, and have even been shown to contain addictive substances ('opioids'). Guest guest
I disagree with Dr.Graham...I've seen waaaaaaay too many miracles happen with wheatgrass...he says 'humans don't need chloropyll?' Hmmmm so why do we know leafy greens to be king and a healer? and yes, if your body is toxic, you will get nousea and even vomiting. It doesn't do great in a toxic body, so you got to reduce the dosage to as little as half a teaspoon and build it up. I you can't handle it, the poweder is almost as good Wim Bommerez <wimbommerez wrote: Although many people say nothing but good things about wheatgrass, there are indeed people that say it's not very good for you, like Dr. Douglas Graham (www.drgraham.cc). Guest guest
Yes vy Dominic, I also think Dr. Graham is wrong in saying that we don't need (or can't use) chlorophyll, and that the symptoms caused by using wheatgrass juice are bad... indeed they're detox symptoms. I agree with most other people in the raw food world that wheatgrass juice, and other green juices, help the body to heal tremendously. But I think Dr. Graham is right about wheat(grass) not being natural human food, and once the body is healed, its use should be stopped, because then it would possibly overstimulate the body. Guest guest
Thanks for both sides. Actually both make sense as well. I'm going to stick with spinach and other greens to juice until I learn more. They detox me enough as is.
