Guest guest
Thanks, Karl and Peter for your comments on my post re: hunger. I have never fasted for over 3 or 4 days, and would like to do an extended fast sometime. Any book recommendations or tips? Also, does anyone have any thoughts on green superfoods, such as " Nature's First Food " ? I have never used supplements of any kind (excepting the vitamins and fluoride tablets I consumed until I was about 11- yuck!). Nature's First Food is described as a food, not a supplement, and because David Wolfe promotes it, I'm trusting that it truly is raw and beneficial- I've been drinking some with coconut water almost daily, for a month. (Of course I would rather get nutrition naturally from wild, organic sources.) Any comments would be appreciated, not only on this superfood, but on any other " raw " superfoods out there. I'm extremely distrustful of anything in bottles. For instance olive oil- how can it still have any nutrients after sitting in a bottle for a while? Seems like it would be oxidized or something. Speaking of coconuts, is there a proper way to open young coconuts? I have a feeling that my method is not ideal! Also, should young coconuts be organic? I buy mine at a regular grocery store, but everything else I eat is organic. So long for now! Sheri ______________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Hi, I don't suppose that there is one way only, but i was taught by some folks from the Phillipines and also some from the Carribian that you " whack " off the point if you are buying the ones that already have the green husk shaved off. If not you have to shave it yourself and " whack " it. I bought a big cleaver that was cheap for the job so that i don't have to ruin my good knives. To cut one perfectly, you should have a small membrane of the white " gel " from the inside still left that you could poke a straw through and drink out the fluid. Yum, yum! Also, for this i bought a stainless tea straw that is used mostly in yerba mate. Less wastefull, i think. Hope this helps. I didn't do the best job describing it i guess, heh. Good luck, Jeff
Guest guest
Sheri I have read quite a lot on the Internet. Generally speaking Doctors seem to know very little about fasting. I do not think it is included in their course of study except for emptying the stomach before seeing them. Also there are a lot of Doctors who say that without medical supervision there are dire risks in fasting. They are almost certainly right. My thinking on that is just the same as it is on any other day. If I get in a mess with a fast I will slowly come off it and visit a doctor as the need arises. Strangely I think the body goes into healing more when it is on a fast. It is also worth thinking about what you are trying to achieve. A lot of people go on fruit or fat fasts but for me the king of fasts is the water fast. That is the big straightened Good luck Peter sherolynmarie [sherolynmarie] Monday, December 02, 2002 3:10 AM rawfood [Raw Food] fasting; superfoods; young coconuts Thanks, Karl and Peter for your comments on my post re: hunger. Guest guest
Oh yeah, Don't forget to cut it in half, or just a bit wider at the tip, after you are done drinking out the fluid. Got to scoop out that good stuff and eat it. If anyone has problems finding young coconuts, don't worry I did too 'till I realized that almost all the oriental grocers here in orlando have them (and they are pretty cheap too when you buy them by the case). I got Whole Foods to carry them for a while but the sales were not high enough to justify getting them back all the time.
