Guest guest
Hey guys I just got " Raw Secrets: The Raw Vegan Diet in the Real World " by Frederic Patenaude. Hot off the press. I bought if before it was released and got it early. Anyway Frederic is right in line with what we are talking about here, the evils of to much raw fat. " Because of the complexity, fatty foods, along with protein, are the most difficult foods to digest. It has been shown that a drop of oil retards digestion for two hours. Some fat is necessary, but too much even in a whole food like avocado, will make you tired and toxic. " He says if you keep a low fat diet you can detoxify in 8 months rather than the 1 month for every year of your age that every one else talks about. I hate to sound like the poster boy for this book but it is quite shocking to find out that I have been raw for over 3 years and have been doing it wrong all that time. " Some people are damaging their health by eating the raw diet incorrectly, mostly, this is because the received poor or confusing advice. This book is my antidote to the false information that is being spread in the raw food movement, hurting people as it goes. This is the book I wish someone had handed to me six years ago when I started out on this path. " Frederic Patenaude. He also quotes Douglas Graham; " The high-fat, raw-food diet is a recipe for failure, both in regards to health and to staying all raw. Utilizing the high-fruit diet is the ideal, logical and healthful method for achieving the low-fat, high-carb diet that every health practitioner on the planet recommends. " The only fat I have eaten for a long time has been avocadoes, the only times I have felt really great (paradise health) was when I ran out of avocadoes. Somehow I never associated the two. As far as hypoglycemia, very few people are not hypoglycemic. Estimates run as high as 250,000,000,000 Americans are hypoglycemic, which means all Americans are hypoglycemic except the diabetics. Guest guest
Hi Doug, It sounds like an interesting book. I'm impressed with your honesty as well. Here in New York there was a lot of controversy amongst the raw foodists about Dr. Graham's theories. Some people just don't want to change. They also didn't really understand what he was saying. They couldn't grasp how to replace the excess fat with more calories from fruit. I'm not going to say who is right, but I do know what is working best for me at this point. Definitely getting the fat levels down is important. How much fruit to eat I just have to follow my body. Ok Doug, please let us know what happens as you lower the percentage of fat in your diet. I'll be checking out that book now. By the way it sounds like Frederic Patenaude is going away from David Wolfe's recommendations. David's diet recommendations are quite high in fat percentage. Does Frederic still work for David Wolfe? I'll be checking out his book now. Thanks again for your post, Roger P.S. Guest guest
I second everything Doug said about " The Raw Secrets " ! I also pre-ordered the book, and received it last week- I'm on my third time through. The info Frederic shares and exposes is so enlightening. I've made dramatic changes already, and I'm SOOO excited about reaching new heights with raw!!! I was stuck on nuts and dried fruit, and yes, raw bingeing, but now all that has changed! I now understand how I can achieve true success, and escape the common pitfalls of the raw diet. Awesome book; check it out! Guest guest
Frederic Patenaude seems to have made a complete departure from David Wolf. He says when he read " Natures First Law " he saved up some money and bought a bus ticket for San Diego. In California, although trying to maintain an air of balance and enthusiasm his health was slowly going downhill. " I thought I was going through detox and that this would stop one day, that I would finally feel " paradise health. " Unfortunately, that day never came. The " detox " was never-ending. " " I was trying to figure out why this wasn't really working for me, the way it was supposed to, according to the books. And I was not alone, I was meeting a lot of other people going through the same thing. But clouded by the ideal of raw-foodism, we wouldn't admit to ourselves what was going on. " " I have met all sorts of people doing this diet, from the sensible to the fanatical and everything in-between. Some of them looked really healthy, while other looked like they had just escaped from a death camp. I met some people who ate what they called a raw diet for many years and then went back to bread and meat. Others who had sworn in the name of raw that they'd never go back to cooked eating were latter found enjoying hot bean burritos without a sign of guilt. How did this happen? " I am no longer enamored by David Wolf although I still consider his books to be a valuable addition to anyone's library. They do contain a lot of misinformation. But most raw food books contain a lot of misinformation. We just need to educate ourselves enough to discern the good from the bad. I found a way to except avocadoes from my friends and not eat them, my dogs get them who, by the way are mostly raw and vegan. I cannot justify the killing of animals to feed my dogs. Roger; you asked how I was doing on a low fat diet. Well the bin is full of avocadoes and I'm on my way to the store to buy bananas. Guest guest
Hi Doug, Thanks for that quote from Frederick. I agree with his statement about some people suffering on the raw diet. Now I know where he stands. The big question is what is detox and what is really just doing the diet incorrectly. Eat up on those bananas. Mahalo, or something like that, Roger Haeske P.S.
