Guest guest
Dear Peter, I have just seen my doctor. She is very unhappy that I am on a water fast. She was relentlessly aggressive and told me I was going to die. I became very anxious. I tried to argue with her but it was hopeless. So I told her I would like to see another doctor. Then she accused me of being sexist. I think the problem is that I have had ultra high blood pressure for many years. The doctor wants to put me in hospital and put me on drugs I will stay on for the rest of my life. I am determined to complete this nine day water fast. I am feeling well, I have no headache, I am drinking water all the time. I am sleeping as I normally do. I am walking as I normally do: that is one hour a day. But I am walking slowly. I am in the fifth day of my nine day water fast. I am hoping it will bring down my ultra high blood pressure. Victor.
Guest guest
Be strong, man! Hang in there. You are over the hump, with a little over three days left. I'm sure your doctor means well, but western trained doctors think in the box with wall built up by drug manufacturers. You've got to expand your consciousness and push through it. Make sure you have a good exit plan when you come off the nine day fast. Guest guest
Victor, Make sure to tell her (your doctor) you made it just fine after your nine day fast. Unfortunately many doctors don't understand the first thing about fasting or how the body heals itself. What a lie that she was told you, you were going to die. You're going to feel great is more likely. Also I remember that you are a coffee drinker. I've recently read that coffee is very bad for high blood pressure as well. I have met several people who have lowered their blood pressure by going on a 100% raw food diet including myself. My latest reading was something like 110/70. I know someone personally who was taking blood pressure medication who's off of it now after having gone 100% raw. Keep up the fast, you're doing wonderfully. Guest guest
Whoa! Ooops! Should have been good luck, not good love!...a little racy, huh? The hug is still coming your way, Lauretta V & LP [res0illx] Thursday, February 13, 2003 4:29 PM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] Water fast - day five Victor, please listen carefully to your body and I hope you are monitoring your blood pressure daily. My BP has been in the 200/120 range for months and, although I had it in the normal range earlier this year by adopting a raw diet and a rigorous exercise program, it steadily rose until I was forced to go on medication (my dentist refused to treat me unless I went on medication). I've been on an ACE inhibitor for 2 months and, although my BP dropped dramatically for a few days, it's right back in the 200/120 range most of the time. I hope your water fast is helpful. I'm considering giving that a shot myself. In my case, I know my BP is affected by an enlarged atrium and two defective valves on top of pulmonary hypertension. I hope you've had physical damage ruled out as a cause of your problems. Good love and a hug to you on this (almost) Valentine's Day! Guest guest
Dear Lauretta, It seems that our condition is similar. It does differ on few points. I have also taken up exercise but whereas you did rigorous exercise, I go for long, quite long, slow walks. I now look forward to my walks. Your heart has suffered some damage and I suspect my heart is enlarged. You have taken up raw food and I took up 70% raw. I am doing a water fast and will go onto 100% raw. I am very surprised your pressure rose after falling with an ACE inhibitor. I am also practising Muscle Relaxation Exercises. I didn't know I was so tense. So far my water fast is going well. It is though, I can tell, having a profound effect on me. It's like I am entering a new country. It is a little scary, a little strange and exhilerating. I am glad to have you along. And Happy Valentine's Day. Victor. Postscript: I think, Lauretta, if you do a water fast, its a good idea to do it in a quiet time in your life. Be aware of the changes to yourself physically and to your inner life. And share your fast with us. rawfood , " V & LP " <res0illx@v...> wrote: > Victor, please listen carefully to your body and I hope you are monitoring your blood pressure daily. Guest guest
Victor, I applaud your tenacity. I do wonder a few things, but want to make sure I mention first that I am not suggesting you stop your fast. Blood pressure reduction, though, like weight reduction, requires a long-term program, not a nine-day one. It seems the concern should be more what you eat when you *are* eating, rather than going without food. Of course, caffeine, salt, pickled, and fried foods are the obvious offenders. If your doctor actually insisted you're going to die, it seems she certainly violated some ethics codes. Is that what she said specifically? Would you tell us what her concerns are/were,or did she tell you? In my experience with cardiac rehab patients doing all sorts of regimens, and various levels of compliance to those regimens, cardio exercise, along with deep breathing and stretching get better results than changes in diet. But, of course, it depends on what was in the diet to begin with. The other thing I wonder about is a persons ability, during a fast, to perform cardio activity of enough intensity to benefit that person. Do you monitor your heart rate during your walks? If so, what is it in the first ten minutes, does it level out after 10 minutes, and what has been your peak HR? I've never known anyone who fasted to lower blood pressure, so I will back away from saying that -without doubt- a fast won't do it, but I do have doubts. I hope you won't be discouraged by it if you find little or no change when you're done with it. You mentioned that you're tense. How often do you stretch? Have you considered yoga? I haven't read all previous emails on your other days, so I hope I'm not repeating what you or others have discussed. If so, feel free to ignore me ;^) In vibrant health, kim --- shortus <no_reply > wrote: > > Dear Lauretta, > > It seems that our condition is similar. Guest guest
Victor, You may take heart from this one. Years ago my father came to me and said he did not feel well and that he felt he should visit a doctor. I advised him clearly and negatively against such a visit. He kept up this uncharacteristic search for my counsel for three days before asking my why he should not visit a doctor. I replied that a doctor would only tell him to change his life style and he would not like such medicine. On the fifth day he came back and proudly announced that he had visited a doctor. Indeed this doctor announced that he should change his life style. I told my father that I had warned him and asked him how he was going to crawl out of that mess. " Oh! " , he replied, all full of bounce, " I've changed the doctor " . I think a change of doctor may be your best medical remedy. That one seems to be a projectionist and out of her depth. Guest guest
Being supportive is a strong point of mine, but I have to say I am in disagreement on this one... I read the details of your fast every day. I think you are going overboard. If you are in such poor health... I think smaller steps would be much more appropriate than a 9 day fast. If your body has been under such extreme stress from having super high blood pressure for so long, the added stress of shocking it with such an in depth water fast can't be good. I advise you to get a second opioion today, and see a doctor who is expereinced with fasting. I don't feel that a person with your serious health problems should be ignoring your doctor's words, " you are going to die " , and getting advice from a . I do wish you the best and hope that this does help your problem. WOOF WOOF, BadDogVT Peter Gardiner <petergardiner wrote:Victor, You may take heart from this one.
