Guest guest
hi everyone. Is there a site good for someone just starting . im looking for a basic how to rather then info on the why its good for you. For instance i dont even know how cheese is made so i dont know if you can eat that. Is cooked the same as baked? So can you eat bread and crackers? If dairy and grains are not recommended , what should i put on my shopping list and what should i gut from the fridge? How much more expensive is it if all i am buying are raw things organiclly rather then processed from the grocery store? My husband is leary becasue he figures our food costs will go up. thanks AJ
Guest guest
i know that www.living-foods.com is a good site, you should check it out. i am also beginning in this, i've not become completely raw yet. however, i do know that anything baked is considered to be cooked. for something to be considered raw, it cannot be heated above 118 degrees i believe. (i think this applies a lot with dehydration...) any heat over this will begin to kill the enzmymes ect. that are in the food. organic prices vary from place to place i believe. but in my experience, they have not been much more expensive than non organic. it helps that my local grocery store carries organic fruits and veggies (many are the same price as non organic.... and some have ranged to about 50 cents a pound more...) if you want to make crackers, breads etc. you should check for some recipes, i've not tried any yet, but i know that they can be made in dehydrators. good luck! ~michelle
Guest guest
Hi AJ The Paleolithic diet is pretty new to me and I am still learning but let me see if I can field some of your questions from the raw veggie perspective... <<<For instance I dont even know how cheese is made so i dont know if you can eat that.>>> I'm not going to pretend to know this one but I would guess that it depends on the cheese. <<<Is cooked the same as baked?>>> Most definitely, if it's been heated then it's not raw. <<<So can you eat bread and crackers?>>> I don't know of any raw breads however, they do make raw crackers. <<<If dairy and grains are not recommended, what should i put on my shopping list and what should i gut from the fridge?>>> Vinny would be the guy to ask about raw dairy, but I can tell you that instead of grains you want to go with raw nuts and seeds (raw almonds, raw cashews, raw pistachios, raw pumpkins seeds, raw sunflower seeds etc.) always make sure they are labeled as raw. I don't know what is in your fridge but always try and get your fruits and veggies as fresh as possible. One rule to follow when you are shopping is to ask yourself " Is this food in it's natural state? Can you find this food as it is in nature? " <<<How much more expensive is it if all i am buying are raw things organiclly rather then processed from the grocery store? My husband is leary becasue he figures our food costs will go up.>>> Your grocery bills are going to go down because you'll need much less to eat. Your body will become much more efficient in it's use of nutrition because it's getting what it needs. One final note: Listen to your body and it will tell you what it needs. Look at the produce section and ask yourself " What am I hungry for? " and your body will tell you and if you are going veggie and your body tells you it wants meat then you can eat nuts and seeds and you'll get what you need and the cravings will subside quickly. Guest guest
Here are a few sites to look at fot ideas. http://www.living-foods.com/index.shtml & http://www.rawheaven.com/ & http://www.rawgourmet.com/ & http://www.rawfood.com/ Cost is hard to say. After a time of vegan/raw you save alot on not being ill . Raw is RAW, organic depends on how easy it is to get in your area. Raw is filling so you eat less. Dairy products are out, they are a major contributer to all kinds of health problems(my opinion), I had broncidous for over 30 years, took meds 4 times a day, it is gone and my wife's pre cancer scare is gone. My two cents! Send Flowers for Valentine's Day
Guest guest
>For instance i dont even know how cheese is made so i dont know if you can eat that. -- Cheese is sorta iffy. The rule I use is: Pastuerized milk products is dead food until it is fermented and then it's live again in products like viili, kefir, yogurt unless they're store bought and then they may have been re-pasteurized. With bread products I stick to sprouted leavened breads. - >what should i put on my shopping list and what should i gut from the fridge? - I'd use up what's there. You don't have to be 100% to start. Maybe to broaden the definition to 'living foods' may help. Here's some recipes that will help get you going. Start with a recipe and make your shopping list from there. Enjoy. rusty http://www.living-foods.com/recipes/ --- - Ashley Jones <peekaboocat7 rawfood Wednesday, February 19, 2003 9:22 AM [Raw Food] no i dea were to start. hi everyone. Guest guest
Don't forget my (our?) site, www.rawfoodwiki.org, the site that you can update yourself. (Try to use it well, and ask me if you have questions on how to use it.) I think it's a pretty cool concept, and could grow into a great site if people adopt it.
