Guest guest
....hello everybody! i need help. i am since some month now eating raw and allready over the detox state mostly. now another problem is turning up: my allready thin body seems still to loose weight, wich concerns me and all people i know and especially my girlfrind, because my bones are sticking out. also i dont give a good example for the rawfood world if i look like a prisoner of a concentration camp. can anybody tell me why this is (bodytype, wrong foods, whatever) and give me some hints what i can eat to gain weight? bananas, cocnut, nuts and avocado dont seem to help, i am allready eating them a lot. can it be of bad asorbtion of the nutrients in the intestines? i would enjoy to have some feedback ... thanks, viraj
Guest guest
Viraj, The same thing happened to me when I went raw. It's a great diet to lose weight, right? In 4-6 months I went from 205 to 165 lbs and at 6'4 " that put me in the " bean pole " category. It was shocking to me because I didn't think I had any weight to lose! From what I know, when you eat and live correctly your body will do the right thing even though you don't think so. If you are heavy you will lose weight and if you are thin you will gain weight. In your case you can expect your body to lose all the excess fat and toxins it has before you finally level off and stop losing weight. Then as you continue you will slowly put weight back on. The right thing to do is to exercise as you put the weight slowly back on so it is in the form of muscle rather than fat. Since hitting a low of 165 lbs I am now back up to 190 after 3 years. I don't want to put on any more weight unless it is muscle developed through exercise and weight lifting. I recommend the bananas and haas avocadoes and perhaps a good bottle of imported beer once in a while :^> Regards, Orionsdad
Guest guest
Hi, I think you are right. I am pretty new to this but I came across Dr Graham's article " Now that I've gone raw, I'm so skinny " last night and it was exactly what you are talking about. You can read it in his article section at http://www.doctorgraham.cc/ It made sense to me Wendy rawfood , " orionsdad <orionsdad@c...> " <orionsdad@c...> wrote: > Viraj, > > The same thing happened to me when I went raw. Guest guest
Hi Viraj, Don't worry this happens to 98% of the people on a raw diet. What is happening is that your body is throwing out all the junk inside of you and making room for the new cells that you're higher nutrition is creating. Also you may not be consuming enough calories. Try to measure how many calories you eat per day. You may find it quite low. You have to expand your stomach quite a bit to get as many calories as you may be used to. Also start lifting weights. The only thing you're really losing is fat. You'll look much better if you add some muscle. You can add all the muscle you want on a raw diet. Beware that the world around you will try to convince you to go back to eating cooked foods. They don't understand what happens to a raw foodist. Every single obstacle can be handled. You just have to learn how with the help of reading, experimentation, support and coaching. Another thing that happens to many raw foodists is that they lose weight at first and later go back to their ideal weight. Or skinny people become skinnier at first and then later they actually gain weight over their cooked food days. So don't worry this happens to everyone on this diet. If you eat enough calories and lift weights to build muscles you'll end up looking better than ever before. This will be a test of your faith. Guest guest
Viraj, Go here to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI): http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. Then you can determine if you are truly underweight. But, it's not entirely bad to be underweight. There was an article in this month's National Geographic about that issue related to aging. Old cells get beat up from free radicals, a normal by-product of metabolism. And one way to produce fewer free radicals is to cut back on food. Studies on mice have shown that restricting calories adds at least a year to their average three-year life spans. If you still feel you must gain weight, there is a chapter in Sapoty Brook's book, Eco-Eating (http://www.bodybubble.com/eco-eating/), on Eating for Weight Gain. He says that natural sources of fat such as nuts, seeds and avocados are phosphorus-residue foods, and that the body will not absorb their fat easily unless combined with enough calcium-residue foods such as green-leaf vegetables. - Janet
Guest guest
Hi Roger, YOu said ... Also you may not be consuming enough calories. Try to measure how many calories you eat per day. Can you tell me what is the difference between eating 30 fruit and vege peices spread throughout the day or 3 meals with 10 peices stuffed into ones stomach? Thanks Wendy
