Guest guest
Hi all, This looks like a great list! I am new to the list and have been on a raw diet for over 2 months now. I was very sick with Endometriosis for most of my life, which after 2 surgeries finally the pain was taken away but left my body very sick. I have Leaky gut, malabsorption and had major IBS. Everything I ate except raw was making me feel like I had food poisoning and I dropped 70 lbs within a couple of months. I felt like I was dying. One night I found David Klein's website on the treatment of Crohns and Colitis and bought his book and set up consultations and at that point I started the raw diet. My body accepted the foods which is mostly fruits and some veggies in the evening and I finally found something I could handle and eat. I seriously thought I was dying from starvation, IBS etc... I'm only 84 lbs right now but am hoping once I'm cleaned out the raw foods will bring my body back to a state of health where it will put some weight back on. I have had a lot of bad days but have seen some good ones recently that gives me hope this is the diet for me. My hands are covered in a very itchy and red rash that turns into peeling and cracks and dryness and nothing has helped this as far as creams and ointments. I refuse to put any topical steroids on as I know they are only harmful. I hope in time this symptom goes away. I have a question regarding gassiness. Since going raw I've just had incredible gas everyday. I properly combine my foods now but am wondering will this gas ever go away or is normal on a raw food diet? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My diet consists mostly of fruits which vary depending what I have and the store has but lots of Mango's, Oranges, some banana's, apples and I make sure not to combine the acidic with the sweet etc... In the evening I'm really wanting salads and less sweet foods. I can't tolerate any nuts or seeds even raw and soaked but lately have done fine with Avocado's. Hoping to one day be able to digest soaked nuts and seeds as I do enjoy having something to snack on. I will snack on the Just Veggies freeze dried fruits and veggies and know that they are more than likely too harsh on the system but sometimes you feel you just need a dry type of snack. If anyone knows more about gas and raw foods please email me at: Karean I would love to get rid of this problem, it can be painful but mostly uncomfortable and annoying. I look forward to the list and will go through the archives for all the valuable advice there must be. In good health! Karean
Guest guest
Karen, Gas comes from chemistry which we all know. Certainly the more you mix foods up the more chemistry there is likely to be. The gas also comes more from the acidic side of the diet. Thus the hint seems to be stay away from the more acidic fruit and increase the vegetables whilst keeping them well separated, not mixing foods and overall eating less. That is only a hint. If it does not work, just ignore it. I think it fair to say that raw foof eating does not produce an abnormal amount of gas, which leads me to think that there may well be other contributory causes. Clearly, you have had an unusual and bad passage with eating. It takes time to get straight after years of getting it wrong. I fear you may need competent medical advice rather than the generality of forum opinion. Guest guest
Thank you Peter I am consulting with Dr. Tim Trader. He was very vague about the gas saying it's part of the cleansing effect and it will take time. I know I'm in for a long recovery but I had considerably better days the last week and have even gotten my appetite back. Interesting that the gas it more from the acidic side. I have been eating oranges like they have been going out of style. I will back down on the acid fruits. Thank you for the explanation I grealty appreciate your time and knowledge. Guest guest
Karean, I read through the rather long article linked to Interesting reading below and saw a reference to your problems with drjdog. It seems you have a complex history which is explained in some detail. Time is what you need and the conviction that you will conquer the problem. Then it will certainly happen. Guest guest
I'm not keen on Banana's so I only have one a day and it's hidden in a smoothie to sweeten it up. What else do you eat? I'm wondering if anyone on the list is sick and doing this type of diet? I would love to know what your weekly food diary was that keeps you feeling well? I was feeling so much better the last few days and then today I had another bout of re-current symptoms. I did eat the wrong foods for my stomach though as I just thought I may be able to handle it since I was feeling better. I had a cabbage/carrot slaw with a very thin blanched raw almond and water dressing but I did add Organic mexican blend spice to it and a squeeze of lemon and orange for flavour too. I have also been snacking on the freeze dried just veggies corn and I'm afraid all that just did me in as well as I had been eating 7 or more oranges a day. It's really tough staying on the same fruits day in and day out but I know because of my ill health I have no choice. I think today gave me another reality check. Anyway if there are other's on the list that suffer from IBS or GI problems that are following a diet structure that is working well I'd really appreciate hearing your weekly dietary diary. You can email me privately at: karean Thank you all for the wonderful advice I have gotten thus far! I truly appreciate this list thank you to the moderator and to everyone who has responded to me.
