Guest guest
Dear all, I think Rusty was singing the praise of linseed or flaxseed as some know it. Rich in scarce Omega 3 oil was the point. When I pour water on these seeds, an oil secretes in quantities. Is it the oil that carries the benefit or the seed itself? I ponder as this well known laxative clearly gets rushed out of the body at such high speed, is it really such a wonderful thing to eat? Whilst on the subject of oil, I read in Dr. Mercola's site that the coconut is a good food but it seems it carries so much fat that only small quantities should be consumed. What is forum knowledge or opinion on this? Peter Gardiner

Coconut oil is Saturated fat. It is NOT a source of Omega 3. Better fats are mono unsaturated (olive oil) or at the very least poly unsaturated., but not Saturated or trans fatty. -- Is it the oil that carries the benefit or the seed itself? -- Omega 3 EFA is in the Flax oil but the oil is in the seed. If you don't want the laxative effect of the flax fiber then use Cold Pressed Flax Oil, or a combination called Udo's Choice which is a blend of oils that provides Omega 3 and Omega 6 in balance. Guest guest
Thanks Rusty, I stopped using olive oil long ago. The coconut looks better avoided from what you say. A lot of people put the flax seed through a coffee grinder. I prefer to use water. I am not worried about their laxative effect. It seems it is harmless enough taken in the small quantities that I am likely to eat them.
