Guest guest
Hello, I have heard that cherry tomatoes do well in containers, but I have never had any luck with regular-sized tomatoes. I am having a heck of a time growing them in AZ in the ground. To help with bugs, put a small amount of a very mild liquid soap, like is sold by Shaklee, in a spray bottle with mostly water. Spray liberally on plants. I use this for bugs and for fungi. Good luck, Sally --- sunny brite <sny299 wrote: > > Hello Everyone, > > This year, I am going to try my hand at container > gardening. Guest guest
Thanks for that bit of info Sally. Do you know where I can find some organic soil? What else have you had good success with? Guest guest
I've grown buckwheat lettuce in a container indoors near a sunny window. I used organic potting soil (Butterfield Farms brand) that I bought at my local garden supply store. Buckwheat lettuce is easy to grow. First you need to soak the seeds, then spread them out evenly in the container, cover with plastic wrap and keep in a dark area until sprouted. Then move to a sunny location. Here are some detailed instructions: http://www.geocities.com/~newliberty/earthstar/greens.htm and http://www.sproutpeople.com/seed/print/bwlettuce.html I've also seen a " Tomato foolproof success kit " at Gardeners' Supply Company, in their print catalog and online. Everything you need to grow tomatoes in a container is in the kit including a self-watering planter and cage. You can view it here: http://www.gardeners.com/sell.asp?ProdGroupID=11734 I've not used the tomato kit but have ordered other garden items from that company. _ Janet
