Guest guest
Here's what I found on the Internet at: http://www.netnutritionist.com/qa14.htm The symptoms of protein deficiency are: * Kwashiorkor [growth failure, loss of muscle mass, protuberant belly] * Fullness, moon-shaped face * Brittle, pluckable hair * Fine, silky hair * Alopecia * Decreased pigmentation (hair) * Meuhrcke's lines (nails) * Edema * Hyperpigmentation (sun-exposed skin) * Flaky paint or crazy paving dermatitis * Delayed wound healing * Decubitus ulcers * Muscle weakness and wasting The diagnostic test (blood test) for determination of inadequate protein intake is serum albumin, which can be done by your physician or healthcare professional. Unless you have been on a very low calorie diet (800 calories a day or less) you probably do not have protein deficiency
Guest guest
I don't think the netnutrionalist's input is any more valid than the input from the post that I read here a couple of days ago. That was the link to the weight trainer/workout pro's webpage. Essentially the email said that he was getting all his protein from his raw food sources. Maybe everybody's body requirements are different. It's confusing to me, some say you don't need protein supplements if you are raw foodist, others suggest that you do. ----- Original Message ----- " janet " <raweats <rawfood > Monday, May 05, 2003 9:10 PM [Raw Food] Protein Deficiency > Here's what I found on the Internet at: > http://www.netnutritionist.com/qa14.htm > > The symptoms of protein deficiency are: > > * Kwashiorkor [growth failure, loss of muscle mass, protuberant belly] <snipe>
Guest guest
The symptoms of protein deficiency are: * Kwashiorkor [growth failure, loss of muscle mass, protuberant belly] Thanks for that link. It was believed for many years that Kwashiorkor was a protein deficiency. Actually, it turns out that by providing enough carbohydrates Kwashiorkor goes away. I've looked up protein deficiency on the net and many articles state Kwashiorkor. But I believe their information is out of date. I learned this from Dr. Graham. He usually has cutting-edge information, since he's in constant contact with many of the top vegetarian researchers and doctors.
