Guest guest
Last night I went to bed feeling fine (in fact, had a relaxing day working in the garden). I woke up this morning with a terrific sore throat. My diet is about 90% raw (lots of fruits, greens, seeds and some nuts). I drink plenty of water, exercise every day, try to relax in the sun at least 15-20 min. daily (weather and seasons permitting), wash my hands when I return home after being out in public. And recently I haven't been in contact with anyone who's had an upper respiratory infection, nor had any stressful events of late. I say " not fair " because my husband is not raw (not even vegetarian), doesn't eat balanced meals. (If his work prevents him from eating a meal, he'll grab a piece of cheese and some chocolate. And when he does sit down to eat a decent meal, he gulps down the food incredibly fast.) He's a surgeon so keeps a hectic schedule, gets little sleep and is around sick people. *He* is the one who should be sick, not me! But he feels fine. It's just not right! [grin] Anyone have any good remedies for sore throats? I don't get these very often, but when I do, it usually turns into a runny nose and cold in a day or so. I can't believe I got this in the spring when I've been outdoors a lot lately! Go figure. - Janet
Guest guest
Hi, While being raw I have had several sore throats... Acutally turned out to be tonsil abcesses. I have never had any sore throat problems before... my doctor says that it is sometimes not uncommon for people in the 20's and 30's to develop tonsil problems and if it is a continued occurance... then they will remove them. I didnt think that it had anything to do with being on a raw diet. If you notice your throat glands getting swollen or a fever, get an antibiotic like clyndamyacin... if an abcess develops, it is very painful to have it drained with a needle. good luck janet <raweats wrote: Last night I went to bed feeling fine (in fact, had a relaxing day working in the garden). Guest guest
If it is followed by runny nose etc. it's probably a springtime mucus discharge that is required. I'd suggest hot drink of raw Ginger, uncooked Cayenne and lemon juice. Just pour hot water over the ingedients to infuse them and let sit for I minute then add cool water to room temperature to keep them vital. You might also try the energy medicine technique of spinning up the 5th chakra. Rub your palms together and then give 40 spins with your right palm around the throat chakra, going up the left side and over and down the right. Then 20 spins with the left palm in the same direction and 10 backward, coming up the right side, over and down the left.. This may require a few repetitions but you'll soon feel the energy and it will help clear any congestions in that area. If you feel tears while doing this exercise it indicates emotional blockages in the 5th and that could be the cause of the throat congestion. rusty - " janet " <raweats <rawfood > Sunday, May 18, 2003 9:04 AM [Raw Food] Sore Throat - Not Fair! > Last night I went to bed feeling fine (in fact, had a relaxing day > working in the garden). Guest guest
Hi Janet: Listen to the body. Sore throats, closed throats, are a part of the detox syndrome. It is the body's way of saying less food or no food for a few days. A fast of a day or two, or maybe just hours, speeds up the process. Rob > Anyone have any good remedies for sore throats?
