Guest guest
Hey Mel; you can't just drop a bomb shell like that and walk away. Tell us more about this 28 day fast. Was it good, horrible, fun, scary, or boring? How long did it take to get over being hungry? (This is false hunger by the way, which is why it goes away.) Did you fast until you became hungry? Or until the coating on your tongue went away? Or was 28 days your goal? How was your energy levels during the fast? Was this you first fast? Or are you an old pro? Did you continue normal activities, during your fast? How did you sleep? How did you start your fast? How are you coming off the fast (breaking phase)? Did you read any good books on fasting before doing yours? Does being asked a lot of questions irritate you? Guest guest
Mel, I have done a 28 day fast too. I did it at the start of going 100% raw and have never been bothered either by detoxification or relapses. I think you will agree that it really does something for the flavour of a spinach leaf which has to be experienced! Well done Peter Mel [bc05356] 22 May 2003 14:32 rawfood Re: [Raw Food] Fasting I'm in the breaking phase of my water fast that ended on Monday morning. It was 28 days long. Quite an experience. Guest guest
Peter; how did you feel during your fast? As you know I would like to do a long fast but I work in construction and am working 60 hours a week. Since 9/11 everyone wants to live in Hawaii. If I got dizzy at work, it would not be good as I am usually on a ladder. I'm going to start a 3 or 4 day fast tomorrow, Friday, and I do not return to work until Tuesday. Maybe I will just see how I feel and extend it into the work week. Except for a few relapses I have been 100% raw since the fall of '99. I own my own company, so I am my own boss, and my boss is a mean old bastard that won't let me take any time off. Also I am thinking that on a longer fast I would lose a lot of weight (which I have none to lose) and someone may have me carted away in an ambulance. Or someone may say; " hey Hitler is dead, you can eat now! Guest guest
Doug, One goes through a lot on a fast: most is positive. On a 60 hour working week! Wow - I did not work which limits me a bit in giving advice. The water fast is the big detoxification but the only negative symptoms I experienced were an ache in the throat which lasted a day or so and some inside mouth sores were cure by increasing the water intake. My reading beforehand held out the prospect of a dozen or more bothers such as head aches, bad breath... ...none of which happened. You probably would need some hydrotherapy, which means the gut wash; I read ideally every five days but I had it once a week and was fine. I felt so much better with the rubbish emptied: I had a positive surge after each wash. Beforehand, the hydrotherapy experience was new to me. However from your starting point of being raw already, it might not be so beneficial. It might be an idea to just see how you feel. If sluggishness creeps in then do it. I walk for an hour a day and kept that up and my memories on those walks are still vivid. Certainly long term concentration weakens but senses sharpen and one gets flashes of inspiration. Thus you might want to keep a list of things to do to keep the working day straight. I would not worry too much about losing weight. No matter how much you fast there always seems to be fat about. I dropped from 70 odd kilos to 49 and am now about 55. On my last couple of days it started to get mildly painful to walk. It seemed that there was little between the bones of my feet and the skin. I just walked more slowly and gently so that there was no pain. On the positive side a lot of healing goes on. My skin became cleaner and softer, the whites of my eyes went stronger, circulation improved and other things happened which I have mentioned before. The sense of smell shot up. Hunger never bothered me: the odd pang could be easily cured by a glass of water. The drinking at least 3 times a day is important for the kidneys, as I recall. I would sit through dinner parties sipping water and watching others get tired and tipsy! No doubt, I should have looked at the colour of my tongue which I am told blackens until all the toxins are out when it returns to a healthy pink and it is time to end the fast. Otherwise explaining what a long fast is like explaining sex to a virgin or swimming to someone who has never been immersed in water. It really has to be done. Of course you need to build up to a long fast but overall it is an experience for which one is the much richer. This may prompt Pete to tell us more Peter kauguy [no_reply ] 23 May 2003 11:59 rawfood Re: [Raw Food] Fasting Peter; how did you feel during your fast?
