Hello,

I am a newbie to raw foods. Over the past month I have been juicing

(mostly vegetables) every day and experimenting with sprouting (both

nuts and seeds). I am probably about 70% raw at this time. I have cut

out dairy and only have a small piece of chicken 1-2 times per week.

My one remaining vice is complete sugar avoidance. I usually have a

cookie or a piece of licorice almost every day. My question - I am 31

years old and have been troubled with occassional joint pain and

cracking. Over the last few days, the joint problems have increased.

My joints are increasingly tender (not swollen) and I have the

constant need to releive the pressure by cracking them. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Inoah

First the sugar is deadly: Try a sour[tart] or hot[spicy] substitute for

sweet.

Second. Raw organic broccoli is a great source of organic MSM which will do

wonders for those joints. But you have to eat lots.

Dear Inoah,

Number one: Cut out the cruelty-laden products (chicken once a week)

immediately. Why would an otherwise healthy person take poison once a week? That

makes no sense. Not only physically, but it's emotionally and spiritually

devastating.

2. Don't worry about cracking joints. The old wives tale of causing arthritis is

bogus. Crack when you have to. However, the need for this will decrease with

exercise. Diet is only 1/3 of the formula for good health. You have to exercise

properly and have proper sleeping habits. If you're not regulated, the only

benefit for your raw food committment will be the sustainablity of the world,

which is great, but your body gets no direct benefit. Exercise!

3. Drink water with colloidal minerals in it between your juice/other meals.

This will keep the flow going through your internal organs.

4. Visit a local Ayurvedic doctor and have him determine your type. You may be

juicing fruits or veggies that aren't for you, and you may be neglecting ones

that are for you.

I recommend raw food for everyone, but don't do it whimsically. Just going

raw isn't enough in itself. You have to find out what's best for YOU

specifically. There are many, many, many foods out there that fall in the

category of raw fruits, nuts, grains, seeds, sprouts, beans, even milk, and not

all are good for EVERYONE. Some are good for some, others are not so good for

those same people.

Good luck!

Frank

Inoah,

I read a book on the Green Lipped Mussel of New Zealand. An extract can

be found in

English health food shops. You might try is. I think I bought the book

from Amazon and have passed it on to someone who had a friend suffered

arthritis. No doubt their search machine would turn it up again.

A good idea to ease in slowly to the raw diet. Clearly you are setting

up a sugar craving

which suggests you could increase the fruit intake. I know this answer

is rather obvious

but sometimes the solution to a craving is not so easy to spot until one

regains clarity.

I would add more RAW FATS (avocado, soaked nuts & seeds (sprouted is

ok, but try just soaking some for a few hours). For a while maybe

some cold pressed flax oil or olive oil. I wouldn't normally consume

oils, but for a while it might be a good idea. Try making some raw

cookies, then find something to replace the licorice, maybe fruit

leather (not store bought).

Best of luck

It's very important not to have your Omega 6 intake exceed your Omega 3

intake. Avocado, seeds, and nuts provide Omega 6 but you need flax or hemp

to provide Omega 3 if you don't eat fish or eggs.

Olive oil provides very little omega essential oils but is a good supply of

mono unsaturated [good] fat

If you have persistent pain you should see an MD.

Tart cherry juice is claimed to relieve arthritis type pain. I doubt that it is

a raw food because it is available as a concentrate. I find it useful and tasty.

It does not taste too tart to me. You can blend it with apple juice if it is too

tart for you. Search google for " tart cherry juice " if it interests you.

Monte,

Thanks. I have been eating plenty of avacado and soaked nuts and

seeds (some of each every day). I also try to have at least a

tablespoon of ground flax seed. Perhaps the joint pain/irritation

will go lessen as I continue on a mostly raw diet.

A tasty mix is two tablespoons of flaxseed meal soaked in two tablespoons of

apple juice and two tablespoons of tart cherry juice. I let it soak for about

ten minutes. The soaking definitely improves the taste and texture of the

flaxseed meal. I get the flaxseed meal at TraderJoe for $2.19 for a one pound

bag.

Someone asked what they might do to help joint pain. I bought the

book The Arthritis Cure and after reading it bought the 2 supplements

it says can help all kinds of joint problems, gout, arthritis, etc

and that is Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfates. It worked like a

miracle for me. I won't go into lengthy detail, but the supplements

are worth taking a look at if you have any kind of joint pain.

Far more important and effective is MSM [Methyl Sulfonyl Methane]. 3 grams

twice daily with equal amounts non acidic Vitamin C.[calcium ascorbate].
