Hi everyone,

Just a quick question: Is eating nuts and seeds enough to maintain

my weight on a raw food diet? I want to change to an all raw diet,

but dont want to look too skinny... I am pretty happy with my weight-

- I could even stand to gain a few pounds... Anyway, saw some photos

of people who were on a 100% all raw food diet and they look a bit

underweight though they look healthy... i'm a female and I'd like to

keep looking like one if you know what i mean... TIA

The healthiest and longest-lived people are always the thinnest in

population studies. (Excluding anorexics and bulimics.) You may like the

way you look now, but it’s possible that your body doesn’t like carrying

as much fat as you may have now.

If I worried about being too skinny, it would not be possible for me to

be on a raw diet. Being thin is good and eventually you’ll like the

look. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Who wants extra fat anyway?

What you can do though is to lift weights or build muscle. Elite body

builders don’t look skinny and yet they get down to 3% body fat. So if

you have some muscles you won’t look skinny.

I think you’ll find that raw foodists may actually prefer people who

look thinner. So just hang out with more of them and you’ll look fine.

As Dr. Graham says, “Most people are over-fat and under-muscled.” Men

can function quite well at 4% body fat. Women do quite well as low as 7

or 8% body fat from what I remember. Most people would look quite bad

without their fat because they have no muscles. We don’t exercise enough

in our sedentary society.

I ate lots of nuts and seeds and I still lost a lot of weight going raw.

Also eating excess fat, even if raw is very dangerous. It can lead to

all sorts of diseases like Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Chronic

Fatigue, Candida, etc. You’re safer if you eat between 8 to 15% of your

daily calories on average from fat. In many studies, what we actually

need as fat is actually around 3% of our calories. So we don’t need a

lot of fat. But some people don’t absorb as well so if you increase to

10 to 15% you should be fine.

The only way to keep fat on your body is to eat cooked food. You will

have to chose either a short, fat, unhealthy life, or a long, skinny,

healthy life.

Doug --- no offense but that is not true. I have fat on my body *lol* --

and I

did not drop loads of weight as some people do on raw.

I have to work really, really, really hard to drop body fat. (trust me I am

trying to do so)

to Tia -- my personal experience has been that if and when I am eating

either 1

avocado a day or a few ounces of nuts a day I maintain my weight.

I am 5'4 " and anywhere between 115 to 118 lbs. to drop my body fat i have to

go months on just fruit and veggies with no nuts and seeds to

drop my weight.

so that is not true for everyone that to keep fat on your body you need to eat

cooked foods.

I have no problem maintaining my weight, maybe because I like avocados and

almonds a lot. My body has gone through so many changes and I know it will

continue to, detoxing and building, with the good quality nutrition from

enjoying raw foods.

Dear All,

When I switched over to raw food on 5th Feb 2003, I scaled at 94 kgs

and today, I weigh 72 kgs and I feel more energetic and healthy. My

height is 176 cms.

If you do not want to loose more weight, I suggest that you eat raw

groundnuts and coconut.
