I have been taking the following superfoods/whole food supplements:

-Pure Synergy

-Perfect Food (original and new formula)

-Pure Radiance C

-Truly Natural Vitamin C

-Cod Liver Oil + Butter Oil

-Fish Oil

-Camu Camu powder

-Fruits of Life

-Coral Calcium

-Capra Mineral Whey

-Goji Berries

I just ordered vitamineral green and bought a new chapter B complex.

Here are my questions:

I need more organic superfoods, whole food blends, whole food

supplements but I can't think of anymore. I'd like for it to be

organic. What else could I be taking and/or putting in my " superfood

smoothies " ?

I can think of cayenne, for the capsicum, and perhaps msm for the organic

sulffer but these might impact on the taste.

One thing that would work would be to add equal parts of psyllium husk and

oat bran to give both soluble an insoluble fibre to help move all this good

stuff along.

Just out of curiosity, why are you taking supplements at all?

Hubby and I are about 80-90% raw/live, we juice on a daily basis (carrot,

romaine lettuce and wheatgrass) and are vegan. We've had no need for

supplementation. In fact, we have found that juicing is more " medicinal "

than anything else and have had to stop certain ingredients (kale and

celery, for instance).

I'm just wondering why you would need that list of supplements, and for how

long do you think you would need them? How will you know if or when to

stop?

None of that is any of my business, obviously; and if you prefer not to

answer, I perfectly understand.

I don't understand, why are you putting all this crap in your body?

Why don't you just eat fruits and green leafy vegetables?

[RH] I agree Doug.

What most people don’t realize is that these superfoods aren’t really so

super. They always compare them to regular foods that aren’t dehydrated.

That isn’t a fair comparison. If you dried kale, romaine, broccoli etc,

they would similarly high nutrients as many of these superfoods. Water

is very important.

I suggest eating mostly fruits and vegetables, and then supplement if

you are still experiencing any deficiency. Either way it seems to me you

are taking way too many supplements.

The only 'superfood' I am fond of is Brewer's Yeast. The main reason

being that it is from a natural source and not loaded with articial

components like so many supplements.

My favorite comes from a company called Lewis Labs. In addition to

Brewer's Yeast they also have Brewer's Yeast Buds and Brewers Yeast

Flakes. These products contain more processing however. It's best

just to stick with the whole, and the original, Brewer's Yeast.

One word of caution: Lewis Labs has product labels that are almost

indistinguishable from one another, so you have to pay attention to

what you're picking up off of the shelf. They also have in their

product line something called Fiber Yeast. One day while shopping

for Brewer's Yeast I grabbed the Fiber Yeast without noticing. I

went home and proceeded to use it as I would Brewer's Yeast and spent

the remainder of the day in the bathroom.

Other than that one possible stumbling block Brewer's Yeast is packed

with nutrients including vegetable-source protein and nearly the

entire spectrum of amino acids. It qualifies as one of the strongest

and most natural 'superfoods' in existance and, from my experience,

also has some aphrodisiac properities.

Rose,

I am wondering how long my carrot juice will keep and still be beneficial for

me. I always thought it was good for about 8 hours then the enzymes were dead

and some benefit is lost. Also, I know I can freeze the carrot juice and again

I ask how much benefit do I lose when doing this. I am trying to go as raw as

possible, but I work and it helps if I can juice at night or even better juice a

gallon or so at a time.

Why, may I ask, did you stop kale and celery?

Tim, I'll try to answer your questions as far as my knowledge goes, but this

is all fairly new to me, as well.

Q: I am wondering how long my carrot juice will keep and still be

beneficial for me. I always thought it was good for about 8 hours then the

enzymes were dead and some benefit is lost.

A: I've heard that it should be ingested immediately after juicing.

That's what we do. Now, if that's not possible for some reason, at the very

least you will get the minerals. Vitamins and enzymes might not be in too

good a shape after being held for any amount of time.

Q: Also, I know I can freeze the carrot juice and again I ask how much

benefit do I lose when doing this.

A: I don't know about freezing, but my thinking is it's probably better

than letting it sit in the fridge for too long in its liquid state. But I

honestly don't know.

Q: I am trying to go as raw as possible, but I work and it helps if I can

juice at night or even better juice a gallon or so at a time.

A: I would think that holding on to that much would not be a good idea.

You'd really be losing way too much. If it's a matter of cleanup, I'd do

the following: juice in the morning before you go to work. Let the juicer

parts that can safely be in water, sit in a bath of lightly soapy water. By

the time you come home, all the bits and pieces will be much easier to clean

up.

Q: Why, may I ask, did you stop kale and celery?

A: This was purely a " nose " decision. We were juicing a leaf or two of

kale with our carrot and celery on a daily basis. About a week or so later,

maybe even two weeks, the smell of the kale literally made me sick to my

stomach. I stopped it at that point. With the celery, it was a little

different. After months of juicing, all of a sudden I'm looking at the

celery juice and I'm getting this weird feeling. I asked Fred to do some

muscle testing for the celery juice, and it turned out that the sodium was

too high for me. Yet, salt was OK. The sodium might be in a different form

or " too " available with celery. I might return to the celery later on, but

for now, it's out.

Hope that helps, Tim.

Rose,

Just a note on storing juice.

When I first joined this forum there were a lot of posts about juicing.

Those in the know were inclined to say that nothing is improved by being

put through

a juicer with the possible exception of wheat grass.

So my input to your carrot juice problem would be to just take the bag

of carrots along to work

and chew them on the spot. They may be even better for you than freshly

juiced carrots!

Hi, Peter. Thanks for the input. Two things, though...

First, the carrot juice problem wasn't mine. I was responding to another

member's queries about juice.

Secondly, I wear full dentures and there's no way in the world I'm chewin'

on rocks all day.

Thanks for the concern, though. I really do appreciate it.
