Living in Israel, the country with the second largest of vegetarians

per capita in the world after India, I have just hit up against the

appalling ignorance of " octo-lovo " " vegetarians " in the States.

I tried to introduce them to the Principles of Proper Food Combining

as described by Natural Hygiene and came up not only against

ignorance, but refusal to accept the principles.

I got the " what works for you " bit.

I got " It's just a theory. We get whole proteins if we don't eat all

the essential amino acids at one meal. " :-/

I got a general, " Poo poo " (which is exactly what an GI tract that

isn't fed on Natural Hygienic principles usually says).

Clueless.

Any ideas how to explain nicely that lacto-ovo isn't any more humane,

or any wiser nutritionally for that matter, than eating meat to

people who sign their posts " Namaste " ?

Personally, I don't go dishing out information unless people are

interested and asking. Otherwise, imho, it sounds preachy and people

usually don't want to hear it. Fwiw, I've found some of your posts

to sound that way. But the information is certainly valuable.

I find that people become curious when they're ready to hear. It

took me just under a year from finding raw food to actually going

raw. It sort of happened naturally when the time was right.

How do we also tell people that we are cutting off the life of a plant for our

own needs is wrong. Each plant has their own consciousness and feelings.

Here's more cultural resitance from a highly vegetarian Country.

Ghandi use the non-viloent approach and ate only foods " Freely Given " Those

were: Seeds, nuts, fruits and veggies and milk and eggs. Although we may

argue that we " Took " the milk and eggs, The Yogi's, at least Ghandi's

branch, considered dairy, non violent and freely given.

How would you convince them othewise?

Ghandi also drank his urine. The Creatinine and uric acid in urine

should never be reingested. No one is always right.

My son eats eggs. I buy him eggs that come from chickens who are

allowed free range and who are fed organic feed.

Ever work in a regular chicken coop? I did on kibbutz. Once. It was

sort of unpleasant to gather the chickens up between my fingers, feel

their legs break sometimes, see them 20 to a cage, sometimes the

collection truck runs them over and their guts splash out. Enjoy

those muffins.

If you can get milk that is unpasteurized, unhomogenized, from cows

that are allowed free range, and eat grass that has not chemicals in

it - hey, go fo' it.

You bet, Fred. Ever read the chapter on eating in Khalil Gibran's

THE PROPHET?

My husband and I were discussing this. It is a very complicated

subject and I should write a book, not a post, about it.

I'll tell you another thing: I know ritual slaughterers who have

told me that they have had the experience of a cow actually craning

her neck to be slaughtered because she was so weary of her

incarnation as a cow. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does

happen.

Is it wrong to allow that which is holy in an animal to be assumed

into that which is holy in a human - to assume the holy into the more

holy still?

The issue is very, very deep.
