Guest guest
Hello Shell, I do not agree with everything in the articles on the Weston Price web site. I recommend a raw food vegetarian diet. I also recommend a raw vegan diet, but only if the person has done a great deal of research on the diet. I feel that a large amount of time needs to be done researching the raw vegan diet for one to be successful and healthy on it. Many vegans do not research or read about the diet and they lose their health. The information on the Weston Price website is very well researched. I highly recommend reading Weston Price's masterpiece " Nutrition and Physical Degeneration " . I learned about the work of Price when I read the book " How We Heal " by Doug Morrison, info on this book: http://www.d-w-m.com/hwh.htm Doug Morrison is a huge fan of Weston Price and he has included a chapter about " Nutrition and Physical Degeneration " in his book. He wrote a little bit about Price and Francis Pottenger halfway down this page, read this before dismissing anything! http://www.d-w-m.com/diet.htm Shell, you wrote " I automaticly dismiss anything written by a group who are trying to flog things. " I am not sure what you mean by this. How is the Price-Pottenger nutrition Foundation trying to flog things? I'm not sure what flog means, the dictionary says it means " 1. ... to criticize harshly 2 : to force or urge into action : DRIVE 3 a chiefly British : to sell (as stolen goods) illegally " Please do not automatically dismiss all the information because they recommend eating raw animal products! There is good information on these sites. Almost ALL native indigenous tribal people living their traditional life-styles eat animal products. Price travelled around the whole world and he could not find any healthy vegan groups of people. His research is incredible and I do not think anyone should automatically dismiss his work. The traditional diets of almost all cultures include animal products, and Sally Fallon's book " Nourishing Traditions " goes into great detail to describe what foods were included in these diets. Traditional diets contain the nutrients to build strong, healthy, disease-free people with perfect teeth and perfect bone structure. Many traditional diets include properly prepared grains, and many include meat. One thing that the Price-Pottenger foundation taught me: 'When Price analyzed traditional diets, he " found these foods to be very rich in fat soluble vitamins A and D -- nutrients only found in animal fats. " {from http://www.d-w-m.com/diet.htm } I find a vegan diet controversial because of this statement. There is more info on this in these articles: http://www.westonaprice.org/vitamins/nutrition_vitaminD.html http://www.westonaprice.org/vitamins/vitaminasaga.html " The Miracle of Vitamin D " and " Vitamin A Saga " I will address another statement you make Shell, you wrote " ... and even held up the meat industry as good for the environment, ... " I assume you mean this article: http://www.westonaprice.org/nutrition_guidelines/ethicsmeat.html " The Ethics of Eating Meat " by Charles Eisenstein This article does NOT support the meat industry!!! It attacks the meat industry. It supports meat-eating, and it supports traditional farms where the animals are treated well. It supports traditional ways of raising animals for food, which are environmentally sustainable and healthy. Again, I do not recommend meat, but this is a very good article comparing factory farms with small traditional family farms. This is a great article which may help vegetarians feel compasion and love towards our friends who eat meat! Before reading this article, I would feel a " holier than thou " attitude towards my meat-eating friends. Now I just encourage them to eat meats from local organic environmentally friendly farms. Properly prepared grains can be healthy and the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation has a large amount of valuable information! Thanks for reading, have a great day!
