raw day or not raw day--that is the question!

I don't decide or not decide to have a raw day until either dinner time or

after I eat my large dinner salad. I then think if I feel like I want

something cooked or not. Usually it will be something like corn on the cob

or a potato or beans & rice, etc. Sometimes after eating my salad, it

doesn't cross my mind to eat anything else (cooked or uncooked).

But I always make note of the time I finish eating. Then I know that I can

start eating fruit 3 hours from that time. If after eating fruit, I feel

like I need something more substantial, or if I know I haven't eaten much in

the way of protein, I will have some nuts.

Every two weeks I go to the doctor to have a spinal manipulation. That is

the only time I get weighed as I know getting on the scale every day really

does more harm than good (for me, as least). Each week, I start wondering

if maybe I'm eating too much dried fruit or nuts and wonder if my weight

will either be the same or up some when I go to get weighed the next time.

So far, the number on the scale continues to go down. When it starts to

stabilize, I will start rethinking my eating routine.

At the begining, I let myself be hungry much more. Now, I just keep eating

fruit if I'm hungry, unless it has been less than 3 hours since my last

non-fruit meal. This is surely and informative adventure for me. I'm

looking forward to the two books I just ordered. 12 Steps To Raw and The

Sunfood Diet Success System.

I know there is so much more to learn than I have already. As I said...this

is an adventure. I am enjoying my new lifestyle even though it sure can

seem strange when around others and their eating lifestyles which differ so

much from mine. One has to learn what to say and not to say around them to

keeping my eating lifestyle from being the main group focus. I am not

adverse to sharing with others, but I will do that on a one-by-one basis and

only if someone initiates the subject.

I do hope to start incorporating more raw food and vegan eating information

at my Exercise Your Willpower website. Since I don't feel like I have to

exercise any willpower anymore, maybe I'll add a section regarding Willpower

Not Needed and start putting the information there. What do you think?

Bring your own food. If you know they don't understand, then you also know

they're not going to go out of their way to prepare you special meals. So,

prepare a week's worth of food to bring with you. Bring your own cooler. Bring

fruit and veggies. Bring your own juicer. Anything that's going to help you get

through the week and be comfortable.

This is something that has been bothering me. There is no other vegetarian

or health concious person in my family and I have already found it

verydifficult being a vegan amongst them. One meal out is no problem as I

can ask for a salad and no one minds. however, a week long family visit

looms and I'm not sure how at all I'm going to cope. I hate talking to

others about my eating habits and wish they wouldn't ask. They neither

believe, nor respect my views on health and it's all very difficult to get

through.

Love Shell.

Hey Shell I do understand your concerns. Even though I am not a strict

vegetarian my sister is. At first we just thought it was one of her

passing phases. But she stuck to it. One way she made us realize the

health benefits is by pointing out the bad stuff on the fatty foods we

used to eat so much, and basically feeding the same to children. In a

way it was like we where giving slow poison to our own children.

Any way the point here is you have a choice and once you put down your

foot and stand firm and proud people usually respect that. But you have

a problem if you are dependent dear ol' mommy to make food for you.

Andy & Shell,

There may be a diplomatic way of dealing with this problem but I just

mutter things such as are you still on your bird food. Then " Lets

change the subject " . One small concession is that I put a big bulky

vegmeal through the slices just before I eat it. This reduces the

volume by 50% more so that I can eat about four well normal loaded

plates without looking like a gourmand.

If you are going to try to please others and bend to their way you will

wind up in the herd so I say " To hell; let them say and think what they

want "

Hi Shell,

I think (depending on how nosy/insistent your family is) that a

completely appropriate answer to a question about your diet is to

just say that you like eating this way. Since it sounds like you all

have made your views clear, maybe you can agree to disagree and leave

it at that?

Just a thought...

Thanks for all the helpful advice from everyone who has already done the

family thing, I take it all on board and will get myself armed up with

knowledge and food before I go.

Love Shell.

I just joined this group today, but remember this……

The only ammo you will need is the glow of life that will exude from your

appearance. It is this glow that gets everyone’s attention. When they see you

start to glow and live free of sickness with a spring in your step and sparkle

in your eye; they will start to question their own decisions. I work for a

Construction Company in the South and when I first started, I heard all of the

jokes. Now I answer all the questions. Lead from example, keep your head up and

be proud you know the truth. Nothing in this world of ours is easy, keep up the

good work; you have made the right decision.

Shell,

I know exactly what you are talking about. Funny how we could live off

Twinkie's and cokes and no one would say anything. The moment someone finds

out you are eating vegetarian, vegan, and/or raw they start questioning

whether or not you are getting the nutrients you need. I think it is

because they know they should be eating better and don't want to admit it,

so they try to find fault in us.
