Guest guest
I've tried that, but I find little grey bugs very attached to their kale. They seem to hide in the curly fringes. Maybe I should just ignore them and juice the life out of them? Karen (wish I had never looked closely to the underside of a kale leaf) - Bridgitte rawfood Thursday, October 16, 2003 6:25 PM [Raw Food] cleaning kale I fill the sink up with cold water, throw the greens in, let them soak for 15 minutes or so, then swish them around a little. All the dirt sinks to the bottom of the sink - I imagine any bugs would too. Bridgitte

Guest guest
I'm a dirt and bug eater myself, and it's not such a bad lifestyle. I only eat organic f & V, and don't wash or rinse before eating. IMO the only thing that is bad for us is the environmental pollutants that settle on our food. I LOVE when I am able to picking and eating food directly from an organic garden (wild food is even better). I just bought a house with a 10+ year old organic garden. Yesterday I sat in the yard eating bunches of chard and tomatoes. Heaven ! I backpack many miles each year, and my best memories are of huge patches of blueberries and blackberries. Nothing is better then sitting in nature pigging out on it's fresh fruit. Don't look at your food, you will never eat it. If you were to put it under a microscope, you would stunned at all the bugs running around. Guest guest
Peter, It's my first house and I'm 37. I've been in apartments for years. One after the other, and I wasn't even smart enough to get some sprouting trays together. I can't tell you how excited I am to have a yard. It's only a small one mind you, but it's a yard. My girlfriend is kind of confused, because I never want to go inside, I just want to sit in the yard and watch the humming birds and listen the the wind in the trees. Please let me know if you ever get out to Palo Alto or the Bay area, I'll take you out for a raw meal, or better yet to the farmers market. We have a couple of Raw restaurants here, and more organic produce then you could imagine. Central CA is a good place for Raw living. Hi Rufus, I know what you are talking about! 7 months ago I moved into a house with a big garden, and it has been so wonderful getting the vegetables out of my own backyard for the whole summer. I also have 15 apple trees in my garden. I think every one should have his/her own piece of land, it really does make one a better, happier person! And as for bugs on vegetables, I think it's a good sign. If they are alive and eating it, it's good enough for us, too. Good luck gardening! /Mimi
