Guest guest
Hi, I'm new here, but have been lurking for a week I think. I began my first juice fast about the same time Lili started her fast. I am a bit behind her, just finished 3 days. My question is this: Am I doing something wrong? I am drinking lots of water and some juice, though not a lot. I have had several fruit juices and a couple of green juices and one carrot juice since I began. Juice isn't my favorite, but it helps when the hunger gets irritating. For the most part I am not hungry, though I get a nawing now and then. No cravings really. My system is still " moving " along every day, which I had expected to stop. But mainly I'm wondering about the fact that I haven't had any of the signs of detoxing that I thought I would: no headache, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, break-outs, nausea, or flu-like symptoms at all. My plan is to continue through Sat. noon which would be 5 days. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks, Susan p.s. I read one book that suggested psyllium husks on a juice fast. If things slow down would this be good?
Guest guest
Susan, Sounds as though you are doing fine. You should start to feel much better and really take off as you leave. As Roger says the water fast is best. The juice fast is for those who have a psychological problem with " starving " themselves. The human body can go a lot longer than a week of two without food and make huge gains. I just think that as a generalization a week is a good starting point with fasting if you are on your own. The idea is to take it at your own speed without punishing yourself. That said a week will not clear out a life time of SAD toxins. It will only make a healthy start. Guest guest
>Is there something I'm missing? - You're quite OK, Susan. Each body and each fast has it's own pace and as long as you're burning more than you're taking in it's working. The detox symptoms may or may not appear. > p.s. I read one book that suggested psyllium husks on a juice fast. - No. Don't take psyllium on the fast and never take a soluble fiber [psyllium] with out taking an equal amount of insoluble [oat bran]. Soluble will jusrt absorb some gunk and sit there in a blob unless it's pushed through with an insoluble. Use both the mop and broom when doing fiber. But, don't do anything of this sort until you are completely out of the fast. Try to do your last day or 2 on water only. I like a small serving of organic blueberries to end my fasts and I just nibble at them for about a half hour, pacing them out. Later on I eat a head of organic kale, one leaf at a time. rusty - " Susan " <susan_wilkinson <rawfood > Thursday, November 20, 2003 12:30 PM [Raw Food] Fasting question > Hi, I'm new here, but have been lurking for a week I think. Guest guest
Hi Peter, Thanks. I chose the juice fast for two reasons. My main health problem has been hypoglycemia (and all of it's related issues) and having never fasted before (I didn't think I could until I read Dr. Furhman) I didn't know if would be able to tell the difference between detoxing and low blood sugar (scary) symptoms. I am doing the final 30 hours of this fast on water only though since I've done so well. I would like to go longer, but we have our 2nd set of children with us for the week and with the holiday coming and that it's just not a good time. It's a good start though, I think. My husband is currently working toward a juice fast (he has to work so needs detox to be slower and more gentle) so when he's ready I will likely join him in a water fast of my own, for a longer period. Thanks. I'm glad to know I'm not messing up. Susan rawfood , " Peter Gardiner " <petergardiner@e...> wrote: > Susan, > > Sounds as though you are doing fine. Guest guest
Hi Rusty, I should have specified that the fiber that was suggested was the insoluable. I only have the husks at this point that I normally mix with some ground flax seed before drinking. Thanks for the reassurance! Guest guest
Susan, You'll get much less of a detoxification on a juice fast than on a water fast. Also just being tired may be a symptom of detoxification. Juice is a food even though it takes less energy to digest. So you aren't getting nearly the same benefits as a water fast.
