Combining Macrobiotics and Raw Foodism?

Lili, I have been lurking for some time adding more raw, back sliding,

moving forward etc. I was macrobiotic for many years, quite strict at some

points

as I was in great need of healing. It was a life saver for me. The changes

it gave me were life changing . I let go of the strictness and gradually (as

I got swept along in life) went to a vegetarian diet. I am now feeling pulled

to move into the raw foods. Sometimes it is hard to let go of some of the

deeply ingrained macro philosophy of food, to allow myself to move into the

raw. Would love to have discussions with you privately if it is deemed

inappropriate for this list.

Respectfully,

Melody

Is anyone here familiar with Macrobiotics? Is there a way to combine

certain principles of Macrobiotics with a raw food diet? How

important are fruits in a raw food diet? Is there a way I could

follow a raw food diet while eliminating excessive fruits? Are there

certain vegetables that can offer me what fruits can nurtritionally?

Thanks Lili

Hi Lili,

To eliminate fruits would be a big mistake for most people unless they

had a very specific reason for not being able to eat fruit. Most fruit

problems are really problems of excess fat in the bloodstream. In

addition, you are probably completely misinformed on what those

conditions would be. Even diabetics can eat fruit and for the most part

should eat fruit. The fact of the matter is that we are frugivores or

fruit eaters by biological and physiological design.

If you do an in-depth study on this you will come to the same

conclusion. Even Charles Darwin claimed that humans were frugivores and

not omnivores. We have nothing in common physiologically with omnivores

like bears and pigs. We don't have claws, a long snout, nor the

digestive tract that omnivores or carnivores have. We are completely

different.

I admire your interests in wanting to learn about health. I think

however you should study nature. The greatest doctor is the human body.

Always look to remove the cause of the problems and don't try to

palliate the symptoms as most medicines including alternative try to do.

The ultimate healer is your own body, not raw foods or herbs. I suggest

you study Natural Hygiene if you want to truly learn about health. I

know others on this board have different opinions on this. This is my

opinion after many years of going back and forth in the raw world and

making many experiments.

The results I get almost always lead me back to the fact that the

principles in Natural Hygiene are the most sound. Natural Hygiene simply

tries to observe nature and follow its ways.

No animal out in nature worries about getting enough vitamins or

antioxidants. They eat via instinct and what tastes good to them. Most

of our problems are actually to do with ill absorption and toxicities.

When I went on a week long fast, I noticed signs that my nutrient

absorption increased. I saw improvements in my nails and this was

without eating any special foods that I previously was supplementing

with to make improvements in what I thought were deficiencies.

Our main problem with going to a raw diet is what we've eaten in the

past. If you start a baby on a raw diet it doesn't have any problems

with it. But over years of unhealthy and toxic living we have damaged

ourselves. The fact that we are very sick before we go raw is what

causes some people to have problems on the raw diet.

Fasting in my mind is the best answer to healing ourselves. Sometimes

the raw diet isn't enough and we need to go on a water fast to correct

some imbalances. You can heal very quickly with this kind of fast

instead of spending years with so so health, even though you are on a

raw food diet.

I would suggest however that it is much easier to fast once you have

accustomed yourself to a raw food diet. The reason being is that you

won't be craving Kentucky Fried Chicken if you've been 100% raw for

about a year. Also you'll have much less toxins in your system and the

fast will be much easier to do and more pleasant. But if you have

serious health conditions you should consider a supervised fast to get

you straightened out.

Hope this helps, Roger Haeske

Hi,

I just wanted to say I was taking a " sugar " med. that was pretty

terrible but when I began eating raw I was able to discontinue

this med. I was scared eating fruit because of it's sugar. My

fasting blood sugar was extremely high but after 1 wk. of eating

raw (and stopping the med. on my own) my BS reading was normal!!!
