This sounds fabulous!! I would definitely be in on Nama Shoyu and almonds.

In fact, I've been wanting to buy almonds anyway, so is anyone up for

splitting with me? We could split the order 5 ways (max.), so me and 4

others. Let me know.

Thanks!

[RawSeattle] nama shoyu

: We can order 4.75gal of nama shoyu for $112.95 + $15 shipping from

goldmine

: natural food 18004753663. Also other bulk stuff. Anderson Almonds has 25

: pounds of organic almonds for $117.44 (includes shipping) -- that's only

: $4.70 per pound. We should leverage the power of our community by doing

more

: bulk orders together.

: I want to make a website utility that will allow people to sign up for

: orders, and to sign up to be coordinators for orders. As soon as enough

: people sign up, the utility will send an email to the coordinator with the

: info on what to buy and from where and how much, and the coordinator will

: buy it and then distribute to those who signed up, at potlucks etc. I need

: to hear from Eric as to what scripting our server supports on the backend

: and then i'll write the program.

I'd be up to spliting on both the almonds and the nama shoyu. I'm also about to

receive a case of olives from Nature's first Law which I'm willing to share.

& if you get more than 5 people total you can just order more cases at the

same time and save a bit on shipping.

I already got my case of 25 pounds and will bring it around to potlucks when

i can.

There is no question that nama shoyu is not as raw as fresh fruits and vegetables. The issue of whether a product that has been killed and then "revived" via microbial action is sufficiently alive to be considered raw should be a personal one and based on conversations with your own body intelligence. Nama shoyu certainly contains lots of enzymes. As for the argument that we are eating the waste products of microorganisms, I personally believe that this argument just taps into our society's obsession with shit being bad in general. Plants certainly "eat" the waste products of microorganisms, and there are plenty of microorganisms in the plants we eat (excreting waste products into those plants' interiors in small amounts), and the microorganisms in our intestines excrete lots of waste products. Why should I assume that my body can't handle (or even thrive on) small amounts of waste products from microorganisms? In any case I shall choose to spend more time deciding the answer for myself. In addition, for those of us on transitional diets, nama shoyu can perhaps make things easier. I for one would like to think that my body will guide me to eat a simpler and simpler diet but I'm not there yet. At the moment salt is still "interesting" to me. Perhaps that's just a sign of my residual toxicities and food addictions: but the important thing is, I'm having fun and I feel healthier than I ever have before! Peace in cleansing, Stephen

Hm. I didn't say that you were being argumentative or even that we were having an "argument". By the word "argument" I really meant the traditional sense of extended sequence of rhetoric. I'm sorry that didn't come across clearly to you and that you thought I was labeling you, calling you argumentative. However, please let it be clear that that is not what I was doing with my words.

What I meant is that the whole nama shoyu argument tends to get bounced around the raw community a lot and you will find that there are people who are absolutely against it for very valid reasons similar to the ones you state, and then there are those who use it for what seems to be also fairly valid reasons, though perhaps just as a temporary, transitional thing to ease out of old addictions by as you say, replacing them with other addictions (hopefully somewhat more healthy ones) with the eventual goal of getting out of addictions altogether. The problem I have seen in other email threads on other raw groups is that the two groups have trouble talking to each other and understanding each other's equally valid points of view, and they appear to me to get polarized against each other's points of view just like religious groups do sometimes.

Each of us has our own path to true health and I would say that no one knows what is right for another person.

peace in cleansing,

Stephen

We use the juice from the olives-morrocan, italian or kalamata (the ones Linda Reeves now offers), as a salt/nama shoyu substitute in salad dressings and recipes. It contains celtic sea salt, and the flavor of the olives, garlic, etc...very tasty!

[RawSeattle] nama shoyu

I received this from a raw fooder who used to live in this area (for those of you in the Seattle area, I got this from Trudy Olson). Thought I would just pass it along.................Shari V

Dear raw food chefs and interested friends: Is there any possible way raw food chefs can stop or limit their use Nama Shoyu (and gluten-containing misos)? The use in recipes encourages so many new raw fooders to use it. It contains wheat which is a grain as you know and most raw fooders don't eat grains. Many people are sensitive to wheat and for those with celiac disease ( many are becoming raw foodists and the experts think that 50%of > the population has undiagnosed celiac disease or gluten sensitivities) it is poison. Many raw fooders have stopped going to potlucks, including me, because new people especially seem to use it in many of their dishes. Some raw fooders, who don' t know whether they have sensitivities, have told me it has made them sick. Gluten molecules are large and the smallest amount can wreak havoc to the villi in the small intestine. It is poison to celiacs and other gluten and wheat-sensitive people. Even wheat-free tamari contains barley which is another gluten grain. Also most raw misos contain gluten even though they are not labeled. The gluten grains are wheat, oats, barley, rye, spelt, triticale , semolina and kamut. Thank you for your consideration. I do appreciate it. Please pass this on to other raw food chefs. Helen Hecker R.N. (going on 4 years -100% raw foods)
