Guest guest
I can see your doctor not wanting you to do a lot of aerobic exercise, but I think it would be best for you to continue walking. Also, one way to build muscle is to do weight training. If you belong to a gym, then that's no problem. If you don't, then you need to invest in some hand weights (dumbells). You can also do push up and any form of weight resistance (isotonics). I was reading at a raw web site about gaining weight. Here is the link devoted to gaining weight: http://www.healself.org/weightgain.html If a doctor tells you not to excercise, I would think twice about having him as a doctor. Of course, he could be referring to very vigorous, long sessions of exercising. You need to use common sense and remember that your body was created to move! You may cut down your sessions, but I would try for some type of exercise or activity each and every day. I think regarding the addition of food, you need to eat healthy, high caloric foods such as smoothies, raw nut butters, dates, bananas, etc. I've been losing a bit too quickly and am drinking at least 1 smoothie a day, and also eating lots of bananas and dates. Today I made some nut butter. Viveca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vita-Mix -- For Nutrition You Can Taste! I think that weight training is the best exercise for putting on pounds. Weights are *cheap* and you don't have to leave your living room, which is a huge plus for me. Guest guest
Thank you Susan - aerobics have ceased, but I will continue my walking and restart my weight program again. Thanks for the ray of hope too - hopefully with all that I am eating and the weight training I will put some layers on! - Susan rawfood Monday, December 29, 2003 5:06 PM Re: [Raw Food] Diet Quetion I would stop the aerobics, but continue the weight training and beef up (no pun intended) the calories, big time. I would add lots of coconut milk and other high fat nutrition. Nuts and seeds are good if you don't overdo. I doubt you will store it as fat if you keep up the weight training and walking. And yes, makes no sense to me, I stopped my weight training and aerobics, and only walk at this point, and (no big surprise) I lost even more weight, which was muscle loss. I want to preserve all the muscle I can, but cannot reconcile that with no exercise. > - > ky_wendylynn > rawfood > Monday, December 29, 2003 12:23 PM > Re: [Raw Food] Diet Quetion > > > > > My question - I need to gain about 18 lbs to be considered a " normal " body > weight. Guest guest
Well, your line of thinking parallels mine - I think the doctor wanted to " freeze " my metabolism and stop all " excess " calorie burning (which he defined as anything over and above needed for basic life functions) until I gain weight. But I have way too much energy, and I FEEL great, and cannot just sit and spin - and I am concerned about letting my body just stagnate, it did not make a lot of sense. I eat a lot of seeds and nuts, but will increase these. I also eat a lot of fresh fruits, but no smoothies.... but I got the blender out today and will start whipping some up tomorrow. This is going to be fun! Thank you for your advice and words of wisdom! I will start on the smoothies and up the nuts - and keep my activities! Thank you again, Viveca - Viveca Park rawfood Monday, December 29, 2003 5:37 PM [Raw Food] Diet Quetion I can see your doctor not wanting you to do a lot of aerobic exercise, but I think it would be best for you to continue walking.
