Maple syrup

Jann (and Vy),

If one of your dietary goals is to be 100% raw, please realize that

maple syrup is not raw. Raw maple sap is boiled down for hours to

make the syrup It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of

syrup.

My favorite raw sweetener is raw organic dates. Be aware that some

store-bought dates may have been steamed. You can order (at a good

price) raw organic dates from The Date People (760-359-3211)

I wish you continued success with your raw running!

How can maple syrup not be vegan? Isn't it just boiled tree sap?

Hi Bron,

When I think how cheap pure maple syrup is in my old homeland of Canada, boo

hoo. Two litters, here, cost about $80, where as the cost in Canada is

probably around $20, but then Canada is loaded with maple trees. Maybe we

should get some maple trees DownUnder, hm?

Cheers,

A maple syrup lover,

Barb, lol

---Oh my gosh! I can not believe maple syrup could possibly cost that

much. I am in Upstate NewYork and everyone and their neighbor has a

little maple patch that they harvest. It really makes you appreciate

your local farmers and local produce!

Wow! thats a lot! I live in Maine about 5 miles from a maple company.

I love their granulated maple sugar. Its so good sprinkled on toast

or pancakes. All this talk of syrup reminded me that I need to buy

some, I'm all out! I get my syrup at a discount shop in Waterville.

They frequently have pure maple syrup at $6 for a 32oz(?) can. :)

Hi Bron,

Airfreight would be costly yet quick, but I don't know if customs would

allow it through. Shipping costs are by weights, and then there's the

exchange rate which costs about $20 extra, so when all is said and done it

costs the same if not more with shipping, & exchange. It's the weight that

gets you, and maple syrup in a large container is not exactly light, darn!

I used to get a litre of pure maple syrup in Victoria, on Vancouver Island,

at a Superstore for about $10.99! The same here, ouch! Liquid Gold!

I now get it for special occassions, lol.

Cheers,

Barb

WOW...at Bob's Sugarhouse in Dover, I think it's $40/gallon? But it is so worth

it. My SIL bought some this summer that they had JUST bottled up - the jug was

still very warm!
