Women and menstruation question

Okay, this is personal, but I have always had erratic periods.

Well, until I started taking doctor prescribed birth control pills

(the estrogen in them regulates the period), but I hated the weight

gain and constipation that came with it so I turned to more natural

forms of estrogen by increasing soy products in my diet. They did

the same thing as the pills, but without the constipation, just the

monthly weight gain. My question is whether it is perfectly normal

and okay to have erratic periods and if it has anything to do with

fertility. I've been checked and eggs are fine, uterus fine,

fallopian tubes all fine, so the insides are fine, just missing the

estrogen, which is surprising because I definitely look and act like

a girl, maybe too much sometimes. I've been told I'm too feminine.

But I guess I've heard so much about side-effects and dangers of soy

and I'm wondering if there's an alternative, or a reason I'm not

addressing for the erratic periods, or if I'm okay just skipping

months for no apparent reason other than a lack of estrogen? And

will I still be fertile? (would like to have a baby)

I am now 30 years old and still nursing 2 year old twins. I had no family

history of multiples or any use of fertility drugs. I actually found out about

the twins in labor at 30 weeks. The reason I'm telling you this is b/c I tried

for a year to get preg and found out by charting I ovulated only 2 times in one

year. Just happened to be 2 eggs once. They are fraternal. I only bleed about 6

times a year for no real reason. My sis has the same situation, as it was

inherited from mom. She ended up using invitro and yes we were preg with our b/g

twins at the same time. My sister is also 10 years older and very medical.

Opposite of me. There are completely different situations for every woman's

body. The key is to start charting and see if you are ovulating at all. By the

way, the problem is rarely estrogen, it is almost always progesterone. I used

that at one point and it did balance my cycles within 4-5 months. If anything,

look into that. Stay away from bc pills. Cruel to the horses

they use and dangerous for humans. Look into charting and that can tell you a

lot. You almost positively are not ovulating. You will bleed on day 17 following

ov unless you are preg. Also, if progesterone cream helps to regulate your

period, I would suggest maintaining it during preg until close to delivery.

Otherwise, if your body doesn't make it well, you will miscarry. Cleaning up you

diet and your body is the best start. Relax and detoxify, it will be best for

your future children. Charting now would be a good suggestion to see what is

going on though. I told them if my body were healthy enough, it would cycle

regularly and refused all the hormonal crap. It is dangerous. The progesterone

cream, you can find in health food stores and is from wild yam, no problems ever

associated with it. But many benefits. My periods are still erratic but I nurse

2 kids twice a day still. I don't believe it will change anytime soon but it is

ok. Don't worry about them being erratic, just learn

how to see if you ovulate. If I can help, let me know Melissa

sarah, you can get prescribed bio-identical estrogen (cream or gel seem

to be best absorbed by the body) i'm using that as i refuse to take

the synthetic HRT, or the pill.

you should have a full hormonal blood panel done - my regular OBGYN

didn't know much about bio-identical hormones so i found a really good

holistic MD and he does know - i feel so much better and my periods are

finally regular and normal. . . .:o)

please feel free to email my off list if you want links etc.
