Guest guest
So, I am the one with the carb craving. I just read somewhere that some people eat raw potatoes. Does anyone here eat them raw? And if you do, got any recipes for them. The person that mentioned it said they just grate them up and eat them with tomato paste and hot sauce. (living foods website) But I don't think that would taste very good, especially for someone just starting out. But I thought that it would fill my craving. Guest guest
I have been through a raw potato phase. I wanted some nutrient that is there, pistase,I think. Now I think they are just roots and should not have more than a minor place in the diet. I do not eat them any more. Tomato paste is heat treated and hot sauce is a form of poison which is why it burns. You should be able to make a meal of any ingredient. Guest guest
We eat raw potato like we eat apples. Just peel and eat. No recipe needed. Sometimes I cut them up into chips and sprinkle with salt/chicken salt and eat them like that.. An old wifes tale is that you can get worms from raw potato but they have never bothered us. - ~moonrae rawfood Wednesday, February 25, 2004 1:42 AM [Raw Food] potato So, I am the one with the carb craving. Guest guest
I'm not attracted to raw potatoes. I think it's just because they taste so horrible when they're not organic. I don't know if I've had an organic potato. I do eat raw yams, white and reddish orange sweet potatoes. Hot sauce is a silly food source imo. Guest guest
I like what Peter said here. Getting away from the basic plant item as God made it is proabably venturing down the wrong road. I think God made it easy for us to eat, in spite of the problems man has had with starvation throughout history. Anything I eat has to be able to be a meal. So, I don't eat onions, garlic, condiments like tarragon, hot peppers, etc. I'm not particulary opposed to them but I don't think to eat them either. Guest guest
Thanks Rich, These spices and the onion family which includes garlic and leaks will kill off anaerobic fauna of the gut, tape worms and all kinds of evil beasties but they can also get into the brain and start confused thinking, kill off " good " bacteria and mess one up more. A raw diet should be simple, made without contraptions, processes and recipes and I find the more it is the better it is. There is astonishingly little variety in my diet and I am not short of any nutrients both by the testimony of blood tests and my own feeling of well being. Guest guest
Peter, what is your diet? Alex
Guest guest
I thought your statement beared repeating. The little variety in my diet is something to get used to and the biggest stumbling block for people to get raw or shy away from recipes. We humans like a lot of everything and food is no exception. We want to eat everything edible in the world as our pleasurable right. I look at the other animals for a little sensibility in this. Every animal besides man just has a couple of items that it eats. My diet is certainly much more varied than the gorillas, as I go after every plant food item that I can make a meal out of. Of course, it is more repetitive than the SAD diet but I believe that's the way a mature human would eat. Of course, grabbing for broccoli, celery, carrots, lettuce, spinach, tomatos, avocados (well not avocados, I like avocados), bell peppers, the various fruits, etc., time and time again, grates on my nerves a little bit. But I'm getting used to it. I believe this is the way I should be eating and my happy lifestyle makes it worthwhile. > A raw diet should be simple, made without contraptions, processes and > recipes and I find the more it is the better it is. Guest guest
You're not a nut man, Peter? rawfood , " Peter Gardiner " <petergardiner@e...> wrote: > |Alex, > Fruit and vegetables in season as fresh as I can get them. > Peter
Guest guest
Rich, Fundamentally am a nut man. The problem I have is finding fresh nuts. For example I would love to have fresh Brazil nuts but clever people at the European commission have said than we can only have them if they are heat treated! TRUE! Apart from that there are none in shops here. I can just get them in the autumn in the market but even than there are expensive and of questionable freshness. If anyone has a rescue for me I am ready to go nuts! Guest guest
I don't worry about this heat treated aspect. They look raw, they taste raw and they don't effect my mental equilibrium, that's all that's important. So they heat the shell to get at the raw nut. Big deal, I don't think the nuts are cooked in any way in this process. It's not enough heat and it doesn't last long enough for the nut to be effected. I just bought some very fresh Brazil nuts at Trader Joes.
