Guest guest
I have been interested in going raw for quite awhile - but had surrounded myself with the wrong kind of people (very unsupportive). Anyways, I have finally taken a few necessary steps in cleaning up my life - which includes living on my own for the first time in years. Tonight is my first " raw " trip to the grocery store - and I'm afraid I'm clueless except for fruits and salads (clueless on salad dressing, too). Does anyone have advice for good " starter- groceries " ? The simpler and easier the better (I won't be really unpacking until this weekend). Thanks so much for your time and I really appreciate ANY feedback!!! KC
Guest guest
KC, Don't buy any salad dressings as they aren't raw. For now you could use a little oilive oil. Or you could just some fresh lemon juice squeezed from a slice of lemon. I make my own dressing. Did you see the one I posted a couple of days ago? Also, you may find you have to shop at a health food store. Here are a few things you could get there, although some of the organic fruits and vegetables you can find at the grocery store. raw nuts raw nutbutter (you can buy it until you have the time and equipment to make it yourself) raw unfiltered vinegar (if you want this to use with olive oil for your salads--also sometimes it's called for in salad dressing recipes) raw honey raw carob powder (I've had to order this online) organic celery spouts spring salad mix organic carrots medjool dates raw sunflower seeds celtic salt frozen fruit This is a start. After you settle in, and if you're interested, I can either find you some sites with this type of information, or type some up from some books I have. You also can check out some raw links here: http://www.exerciseyourwillpower.com/links.html And don't forget the power of a smoothie! That can really get you through a rough patch when hungry or tempted. Viveca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vita-Mix -- For Nutrition You Can Taste! Guest guest
The absolute simplest way is to do as little preparation as possible. Buy fresh fruit. You can make a fruit salad or just eat it as is. Get fresh veggies you can make a salad with. Salad dressing can be as simple as some olive oil. Bragg's makes a good salad dressing too. Or squeeze a lemon, lime or orange on the salad. Another idea is to throw a tomato in the blender. Instead of putting tomato slices in the salad pour the pureed tomato on top as your dressing. Carrot juice can be used in this way too. Raw nuts and seeds--be sure to soak them to release the enzyme inhibitors before eating. I soak a months supply and then dehydrate them so they aren't soggy. You could probably just set them out on a cookie sheet to dry if you don't have a dehydrator. Maybe you'd want to put a towel under them to help absorb the water? Also, get some seeds and make your own sprouts. All you need to sprout at home is an empty jar and something to put over the top to hold the seeds in when you drain the water out. Guest guest
Just go to produce aisle and by whatever you feel like buying. Try not to worry so much and just eat what feels comfortable to you the first few days. kristi
