Guest guest
Angel, Do you live in NYC? If so, I heard that there are about 6 raw restaurants. It almost makes me want to move north (well, maybe for the summer anyway, as I live in sunny south Florida). Did you do a search on raw food in New York City? You may also be able to find a raw potluck group. I'm sure once you start networking with raw foodist locally you can find out where to shop, etc. Summer time should be even better as there should be farmer's markets around. Also, you can do some shopping online such as dates, nuts, etc. Viveca Park ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` 12 Steps To Raw http://health.12stepstoraw/ Exercise Your Willpower http://www.exerciseyourwillpower.com Fitness Motivator Newsletter http://www.fitnessmotivatornewsletter.com Invitations Galore http://www.invitationsgalore.com VNET Cyber Mall http://www.vnetcybermall.com Vita-Mix For Nurtrition You Can Taste! http://www.vnetcybermall.com/vitamix [Raw Food] Lost in New York Hello everyone. I've been a part of this group for a couple of weeks now and I've just been observing the posts - reading to see different recipes and learn more about the whole lifestyle. I have not yet been able to take the plung to become fully raw although I would love to. I've been searching for at very least an organic/health food store where I can buy what I need for my journey. However it seems that it's impossible to find anything around here that promotes healthy living. I went to the only restaurant in new york that is raw this past weekend, but it's over an hour away. Does anyone have any advice??? I want to make this change but I just don't trust any food stores around here. I feel like it's impossible to live in New York and attempt to live this life because of the lack of support/resources.
Guest guest
All right, I'm going to hop a little bit out of lurk mode for this one. My name is Jenny, and actually on Thursday I plan to get back to heading towards raw. Its been a struggle for me, since new years since I tried to start, including the loss of my boyfriend's grandmother (who practically raised him), taking over a small business, and eating out far more than I ususally do. I've been silently reading here for a month or two, and absorbing everything that I can. But, why I posted. If you live in NYC (as I do) I haven't gotten out to start exploring for raw restaurants yet, but when it comes to health food stores, there are several. Up around Columbus Circle is a Whole Foods, and another one will be opening up on 14th at Union Square. Just South of there on University, between 11th and 12th I do believe is a grocery store called Healthy Pleasures. I love that place, it has most everything I could ask for, including some prepared raw foods, mainly deserts. They have another store further South, but I'm not sure where. For more exact addresses you can use yellowpages.com. Also at Union Square is a farmer's market on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday if I remember correctly. There's always some awesome stuff there, including rooftop honey from the boroughs, organic cat grass, and all sorts of seasonal veggies and fruits. The apples are so worth any trip for them during the fall. Thats year round. Best to go earlier in t he day when folks have a better selection and more vendors are still there. There are many other farmers markets in the city, I think the group that organizes them is a city office, something like green markets or some such. I can't remember exactly, but they have an online site somewhere. All right, bedtime for me now that I'm done my plum. Yay plum! Take care, Jenny Enjoy Life, this is not a dress rehearsal. NYC has at least seven all-raw restaurants and a lot of stores that sell raw takeout items. NYC is the best place to be if you are raw! I miss it all the time, since I moved to Florida, where the variety of organic produce is very sparse and most produce comes from other countries. Guest guest
I just love these times we live in where people are almost always precarious about raw eating. In a few hundred years it might be as commonplace as bathing. Children will grow up raw from the get-go and won't even know what this angst is about getting raw, switching over from a cooked food diet. All the drama we go through to get raw may be vitually nonexistent someday. rawfood , " Angel " <alopez@i...> wrote: > Hello everyone. Guest guest
I often say this expression to myself, " this is not a dress rehearsal. " I'm not sure what I was doing before this life, but I know that everything that's going on for me right now is very real. Guest guest
Hi Jenny, Thanks for your help. However, I don't live in the city and to go shopping there would be a big trip for me although I'd do it if need be. Do you know of anything outside of the city? Guest guest
I'm outside of NYC. If you know something I don't, please, I'd love to hear it.

Guest guest
" Do you know of anything outside of the city? " Sorry, nope. I grew up in Pennsylvania, spend half my time now in NYC and the rest in Southern Jersey. My best suggestion would be to do some more exploring of your area, you'd be surprised what you can find. If you have a scary looking indoor farmer's market, they might have some hidden goodies in there. I've found that to be the case several times now. Otherwise, the main chain that offers a lot of organic foods that I know of is Whole Foods, they should be in your area too. You can just go to their website and check. Outside of that, spring is coming fast, plant some plants for yourself, it will at least give you a few months of fresh veggies who's origin you know full well yourself. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Jenny. Enjoy Life, this is not a dress rehearsal.
