Ok, I am starting raw AGAIN (tend to go 100% each time). In the

past I have found the first 3 days to be the most difficult. I was

wondering if anyone had any " pearls of wisdom " or thoughts of

inspiration to help me make it over my 3 day hump!!!

Thanks,

Beverly :)

Hi Beverly....Pearls of Wisdom...I'll tell you that I have tried over and over again to go completely raw. Yes, the first few days are the worst. If children are in the home it seems to be even more difficult. If I could empty my fridge and cupboards of everythg that's not raw I could do it much more easily, however I will not put my family through any of that till I am strong and well on my way and have somewhat mastered the recipes....Words of wisdom....Your gut is telling you THIS IS IT....Life begins beyond your comfort zone....How exciting are the possibilities...Follow your heart and remember in your weakest moment your feelings of greatest clarity. That moment will pass...It is my life choice and I am a raw foodist in spirit..I am clear in that and can inspire anyone in need of a pep talk about raw food. You will be well on your way after these first few days and then I will be calling in the troops for myself. Your friend,Kelly

Greetings, Beverly!

I suffered from the same problem, and here's what helps me:

Want to do it. (Have a deep, passionate desire like its the only choice available to you.) You have to be inspired for this to work.

Don't think about food (Easier said than done, but do-able) and focus your thoughts and energy on something positive and constructive (exercise, life goals, studying health-nutrition-spirituality books)

Get out of the house and away from food. It's harder now that its cold, but don't make any excuses (go see a play, take the children to "Run & Shoot", "Dave & Busters" or somewhere, visit friends and relatives (don't eat their food, bring your own), enroll in a class- with or without the children, go to the gym, stay later at work, learn a new skill- sewing, live food prep, crocheting, knitting; volunteer and help somebody, hang out at Barnes & Noble and read anything that sparks your interest, treat yourself to a massage, go the the museum, go for a cold jog at the 15+ different parks in the area, ride your bike- get out and live until food becomes and after-thought and low priority on your list.

Create a menu and shopping list for the week. Just open up a raw food preparation book and try any recipe- you might be pleasantly surprised.

Prepare lots of raw food in advance. So you can just grab and go.

Carry lots of raw snacks with you (nuts, seeds, fruit, raw pre-packaged snacks from health food stores) at all times. Keep them in your purse. Leave some in your desk drawer at work. Leave beautiful fruit baskets (filled with fruit ) all over the house.

Spend quality face-to-face time with other raw foodists.

Walk out your front door or turn on the t.v. (then cut it back off) and see the horrible state of obesity and poor health that our people are in.

Find an old photo of what you used to look like and imagine how eating 100% live food will help you look that way when you are 90 and 290 years old - and forever and ever.

Drink lots of water. (Sometimes when we feel hungry, we are actually thirsty.)

And if, by chance, you do all of these and it still doesn't work- don't force it, don't beat yourself up, don't call yourself a failure- just take it slow (drop down to only one cooked meal a day or week, then elevate from there.) and when the its the proper time, it will happen for you.

Love,

Zakhah

congratulations on doing 100% raw.

what has helped me in the beginning is to:

1) read, fill your mind with positive propaganda on why 100% raw is

the only option. tv promotes the fast food cooked diet.

2) eat exotic fruits. health food stores have fruits on their lists

from their respective distributors that they may or may not be

carrying in the store, some examples, cherimoya, black and white

sapote, fresh figs, tamarillos, etc. there are thousands of fruits

each with thousands of varieties. ask to see what is on your health

food store's list, and request that they order it for you.

3) eat wild berries (goji's, incan, blue), they are very filling!

4) have a big dark green salad with avocado and/or olives daily.

5) drink a lot of green vegetable juices (celery). the cooked food

diet is very acidic. we have to bring in the akalizing minerals

found in the green juices to build up our digestive juices and to

balance the years of eating dead food.

Alafia Zakhah,

These are wonderful suggestions. We have no choice but to benefit from this information.

Start with organic bananas

(copied from another raw group)

regards,

tev

Bananas: Containing three natural sugars -

sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a

banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial

boost of energy.

Energy: Research has proven that just two bananas

provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute

workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit

with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't

the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can

also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of

illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to

our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey

undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from

depression, many felt much better after eating a

banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a

type of protein that the body converts into serotonin,

known to make you relax, improve your mood and

generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The

vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels,

which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the

production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in

cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is

extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it

the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so,

the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed

the banana industry to make official claims for the

fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure

and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex)

school were helped through their exams this year by

eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid

to boost their brain power. Research has shown that

the

potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making

pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in

the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping

to overcome the problem without resorting to

laxatives.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in

the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating

a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between

meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid

morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect

bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the

inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly

successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help

calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute

of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads

to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps.

Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers

found the most obese were more likely to be in

high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to

avoid

panic-induced food cravings, we need to control

our blood sugar levels by snacking on high

carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels

steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food

against intestinal disorders because of its soft

texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that

can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler

cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces

irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can

help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural

mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to

give up smoking. The B6, B12 [???] they contain, as

well as the potassium and magnesium found in them,

help the body recover from the effects of nicotine

withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps

normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and

regulates your body's water balance. When we are

stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing

our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with

the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in " The New

England Journal of Medicine " , eating bananas as part

of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes

by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many

ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four

times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three

times

the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and

twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich

in potassium and is one of the best value foods

around.

So maybe its time to change that well-known

phrase so that we say, " A banana a day keeps the

doctor away! "
