Guest guest
Greetings Members: If this year is your first struggling with whether or not to participate in the christmas festivities at your worksite (eating) without being anti-social, I have a few recommendations: 1. You can simply decline. 2. Schedule that day off or an appointment 3. Prepare your own meal My story. The Office celebration went into planning roughly two weeks ago. I new it was coming and was confident that I could handle it. When I was asked for a monetary donation I asked, for what and for whom? Then proceeded to remind the planner that I was an Organic Raw Vegan for over a year now and mind you, I've been employed there for over 25 years and have participated 100% in the past while on the SAD. That was literally the end of it for the planner. Well, a week passed. I expected to be asked if there was ANYTHING that could be done on their part to assure my presence. Who was I kidding? What we as raw vegans must always remember is that people who partake in the SAD regardless of whether they are family members, close friends or co-workers, first of all do not understand why or what you're doing and are not in the least bit interested in learning. Therefore, it becomes easy for them to just walk away from you. Afterall, you're not mainstream anymore. You're strange, you've probably become a member of some cult and most of all, you've got to be crazy for having given up MAC 'N CHEESE! GREENS THAT MELT IN YOUR MOUTH! CHICKEN! CORNBREAD! AUNT DAISY'S APPLE PIE & ICE CREAM! AND A LITTLE " TASTE " THAT'S BEING SERVED IN THE BACK ROOM! Well, I was determined! I decided to attend regardless of their lack of concern so Ron and I planned a meal that was sure to take everyone's eyes of the steam table and focus on MY RAW PLATTER. Before you take a peak at MY RAW PLATTER, allow me to describe what I prepared. Carefully on a beautifully stained glass platter was the following: On a bed of fresh red leaf lettuce I sectioned 1. Mock Potatoe Salad made with Cauliflower 2. 3 Varieties of Marinated Kale and Rainbow Swiss Chard on a bed of Fresh Spring Salad Mix, topped with Home Sprouted Alfalfa, thin strips of Red & Yellow Bell Peppers and a few sections of just ripe Avocado 3. Sunyatta and Matt's version of Emperor's Forbidden Rice 4. Vegetable Sushi Rolls that included jullienned strips of zuccini, red & yellow bell, carrots, celery, spring onion and pickled sushi ginger (I made sure you could see all of these items). For dipping, I used Wasabi Sauce poured into a 3 " cut of cucumber that had been seeded roughly 1 1/2 " deep. The bottom was cut off for standing then place in the center of the platter 5. Finally, a bed of fruit consisting of fresh pineapple, kiwi, satsuma, grapes and bing cherries. For additional decoration I added lemon twists and fresh parsely. Mouth watering yet? Now click on " Photos " on the side bar and you'll see MY RAW PLATTER. What I wasn't prepared for was the gawking, begging to taste and questions. I remember taking 2 or 3 small bites then coming to a complete stop to describe what was on my plate and why, which took nearly 30 minuets. Yes, you're right, my appetite vanished! I ended up nibbling on the fruit, wrapping everything else and bringing it back home. The moral to this story? Your Raw Enthusiaum is of no concern to cooked fooders, they'll eat your food and theirs. SHOWING OFF gets you know where. How'd you or will you handle YOUR Office Day Celebration?
