Guest guest
Hello and Welcome! Here are some of my & hubby's favorites. I pasted this from a much larger list I've been compiling over the last 8 months since I went Vege. If you, or anyone, would like the list, and happen to have Excel on your computer, just email me your email address and I'd be more than happy to attach it to an email and send it to you. It doesn't have everything, of course, just what I've been able to try. It does have ratings on most items (1-5) and comments on the items. I will make no guarantees on anything in it but to the best of my knowledge everything I mark as Vegan is Vegan. In dairy watch out for casein & caseinate (both are milk proteins, derived from milk and are commonly in foods that claim "dairy free" like cool whip and powdered coffee creamer. Whey also comes from milk. In cheeses watch out for rennin & rennet, these are enzymes collected from the stomachs of calves. When buying rice or pasta mixes like Rice-A-Roni, soups, stuffing, breads watch out for meat flavoring (chicken flavoring, beef fat, etc), dairy & eggsGelatin is in Jell-O (of course,) marshmallows, Skittles, Starburst and some other candies and other foods. Gelatin comes from the hooves and bones of animals. In health and beauty products: lanolin (from sheep) & bees wax.In clothing: wool, silk and obviously leather and other animal skins and fur.Of course there are lots more than I've listed but these are some of the more common but maybe not obvious to someone just starting out. I, myself mainly look for anything obvious (to me), there are many many ingredients out there that may be from either plant, animal or synthetic and you won't know without contacting the company...those I don't even remember, let alone look for. If you're going to try to be ultra picky you can check out the PETA website, they have a long list of ingredients. Either way, this should give you a head start.Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hey, Sam, welcome and congrats. so, what's your question? I mean, my tip is read labels and do not be shy about calling or e-mailing companies to ask what's in their food. If a company does something right, tell them. If they do something wrong, tell them. How would you feel about putting it in the "files" section of the list so everyone on the list could access it? If you'd be happy for us to do that, just send me a copy and I'll put it in the files section.
