Guest guest
Not sure what it means in this context...but I know religiously, ( I am a muslim) we are instructed to name our children from the good names. And we find in Islaamic history anytime that a person accepted Islaam and their name had a bad meaning or the meaning of the name was not known...then the Prophet Muhammad would rename them. So from my Islaamic background this is why many of us who were not muslim from birth, change our names because 99% of us have not idea what our names mean.pnparlette wrote: I'm curious as to the meaning of taking on a new name? Guest guest
In the black community, people take on new names for various reasons. Most people I’ve encountered take on a new name to rid themselves of there slave master name and re-introduce themselves to their African heritage since that was key in slave times (Kunta to Toby). There are also religious names given or taken on when someone comes into a new doctrine or paradigm and finds themselves in a community where it is fit that person to be called something that aligns themselves with that particular religion. For myself, I can’t say that either is the case. It’s something that I’ve thought about for a long time and spiritually I feel that I’m called to do. Every name has a particular energy and vibration and meaning. The name that I have now has meaning but was pretty much chosen at random. For the work that I want to accomplish with this present incarnation I feel it necessary that I be called by a particular energy that will assist me in fulfilling this incarnation and my destiny. As far as having a ceremony, the way I see it is to one, to formally announce to the community similar to a wedding ceremony, and two, a way to recognize this new energy spiritually by pouring libation, calling the ancestors, etc. Light, Matt (for now) J Fatimah Bint Rasheed [salafyforlife] Wednesday, September 22, 2004 4:21 PM RE: Naming Ceremony! Guest guest
Yah Lives! Greetings, Matt! I wanted to tell you congradulations on your naming ceremony. I want to attend this and the BrunchLuck on Saturday, but we'll be entering into our high holy day of Yom Kippur at sundown tomorrow. I was wondering when you were going to make that move. I'm very proud of you and can't wait to hear what the name of your vibration/energy will be. Zakhah"Matthew A.
