Guest guest
Hi, All: I'm looking for things to eat or take to help with my sugar cravings. I'm not looking for substitutions like stevia, maple syrup, raw honey, etc,. I need things to eat to alleviate the cravings. I suspect the root of the cravings is hormonal. I was a raving chocoholic before I had my children. During both of my pregnancies I rarely desired chocolate or sweets. Now every time I turn around I want an apple pie, and my raw apple pie doesn't always cut it. So I know the answer is deeper than sugar substitutes. Thanks in advance for the help. Guest guest
Hi, Althea I read in victoria boutenko's " 12 steps to raw " that drinking sesame milk helps alleviate sugar cravings, as do other foods with a high calcium content. Don't remember what the science is behind it, but I do know that calcium is a nerve tonic. Many of us crave sweets when under stress or emotional strain, which is why, I think, women crave the stuff during their moontime which is no longer held sacred. I've noticed with my own self thatwhen I celebrate my moontime and demand the time to myself and the rest that I need, I tend to not crave the sweets so much. When I just rush rush rush like usual and try to " take it like a man " the way our culture convinces women to do, I start self-medicating with chocolate and sweets. So, I'm not sure if it really is " just hormonal " or if this is how women have learned to cope with a moontime-denigrating culture. Sorry to have turned the answer to your question into my soap-box rant, but this is an issue I am very passionate about. Hope that it helped! Guest guest
Hi Althea, I heard Dr. Klapper speak once on sugar cravings and he said the general population is calcium deficient due to the amount of sugar and caffiene that is consumed. He siad that any amount strips us the calcium that we have in our bodies. He recommended eating calcium rich foods in order to cut the sugar cravings (i.e. lots of dark leafy greens, sesame seed milk). I would also recommed that you go to www.keepwell.com and read up on "sugar-dangers" and any of the other items found there. Guest guest
Greetingd Althea. Fasting, water or veggie juice is a good way to detox from the sugar addiction. Sometimes a chromium (dark greens) produces sugar cravings and also it is commonly an indication of candida and/or parasites. A good all raw veggie and no fatty foods and some fruits except dried and real sweet ones. Even removing the sugar or minimizing the cravings will still require some discipline and re-training the taste buds (allowing them to revert back to what's natural for you. Sometimes salt and crunchy cravings may arise following the sugar cravings. You can also look into blood sugar imbalances and leaky gut (common when candida is present). I had long standing sugar cravings when I was dealing w/parastes and candida, even now if I do too much fattyn or concentrated foods for a period of time the sugar cravings come back. peace, Mark consciouscultureTo: Sent: Sun, 15 May 2005 11:09:47 EDT Help for Sugar Cravings Hi, All: I'm looking for things to eat or take to help with my sugar cravings.
