Guest guest
Is anyone else out there experimenting with the Boutenko green smoothies? I'm trying to figure out exactly how much green smoothie I should be eating. I read the June newsletter about 4 times. Victoria says that a person eating 4 to 5 pounds of fruit a day should be eating 2 bunches of greens. What is that in the same units? 2 pounds of greens? If the recipe is for 1/2 a bunch and makes 1/2 gallon, then I would need to eat 2 gallons of smoothie a day to reach 2 bunches a day. That seems like a lot of baby food to be shoveling down. I can see why she says this is 80%+ of her diet. It seems that if I wake up and eat a banana straight instead of making a smoothie with it then I have already blown my day. Saturday made a green smoothie with a pound of swiss chard and four bananas. It was too strong. I could only eat half of it by the expiration on Sunday. Monday I made a smoothie with lettuce, celery, and apples. I ate all of that within hours and could have eaten more, but I ate a pound of peanuts and didn't get home from work until late. Today I ate my bananas instead of making a smoothie with them. It seems that I either need to wake up early every morning (not likely) and invest in transport containers or I need to set up a blender at work and carry in greens and fruit. I'm a long way from 2 gallons a day. I'd like to try this for a couple of months and see what happens. I started on raw food for the health benefits and if green smoothies will get me to the next level, I'm ready to go. I'd love to know some other people's experiences and green smoothie goals. -Thomas
Guest guest
Thomas , relax . Enjoy the raw life. You can add more greens to your smoothie if you like. Or use a variety of greens to eat or drink. Wheat grass juice would allow you to drink less greens . Just stop panicking and enjoy your new lfe style .Ain't it Great to be Alive Have a Fruitful Day, Lynda Carter C.N.C. www.aliveandraw.com
Guest guest
Whew! You seem to be stressing about this too much. You're missing the point of what eating live is all about. Relax. Your body will tell you what what you should be doing--ie. 'what feels right.' You shouldn't get caught up into all these precise measurements and over-analyzing because no one has your particular body but you. Therefore, even if there's a certain health goal you what to meet, you must cater it to your lifestyle, not someone else's. You're not going to pass out if you don't consume 10 pounds of greens in a smoothie a day! Trust yourself. When you're not able to make smoothie, carry some apples and oranges. Take some salad to work instead of your blender and bags of fruit. There are ways around everything. If you need some more specific examples, e-mail me--I'm still incorporating more liveness everyday, Maudisa.Thomas Jarvis <tjarvis93 wrote: Is anyone else out there experimenting with the Boutenko greensmoothies? Guest guest
Sonia, If you dig around on rawfoodtalk.com, you can find quite a few discussions and recipes on green smoothies. You may find the thread I started to be of interest. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4260 For other threads, click on the banana and enter " green smoothie " to do a search. Victoria's recipes from " Ode to Green Smoothie " are: Some of my favorite greens to add to green smoothies: parsley, spinach, celery, kale and romaine. My favorite fruits for green smoothies are: pears, peaches, nectarines, bananas, mangoes and apples. Guest guest
Thanks for the green smoothie recipes Thomas. I will have to try some of them out, especially with my kids who are so tired of carrot juice & greens. I have found that the longer I go raw (will be 4 years in Aug.) that I am more sensitive to my body's needs and trust that as your body adjusts to the raw life, you will begin to understand the messages it sends. Just keep eating all the fruit and greens you want making sure to get some good fat from Avocado, nuts, seeds or olives and some good protein from sprouted beans, peas, nut, seeds and/or avocado. Guest guest
Maudisa, Regarding specific examples for incorporating liveness into the daily diet, I could sure use some examples it you're willing to part with them. The difficult part of this all is the lack of information/recipes for daily raw living. I see a recipe here and there and a raw food class here and there but nothing that explains what the diet is on a consistent basis and it can be pretty overwhelming for those of us that used to consume regular meat diets. There seems to be no information regarding a place to start for the beginner. If you have any examples and can alos point me in the direction of finding the foods/proportions and what to eat for protein (now that I don't do chicken), I would really appreciate it. Blessings, Sonia

Guest guest
You're right Sonia! If you look at the Hallelujah Diet (www.hacres.com) they have a lot of good info although they allow some cooked food at dinner. The way I have found works best for me is to eat fruit in the morning and for lunch (with some live juice or smoothies sometime in the morning or afternoon) and then a full plate of salad for dinner always including some good for you fat (nuts, seed, olives, avocado) and lots of greens and other veggies and, at least every other day, some kind of protein in the form of peas, sprouted beans, avocado, sprouts or other high protein veggies. I make my own salad dressing daily, which is really like another juice. I put in tomatoes, celery, lemon(or lime), herbs or garlic or onion, so as to cover all the flavors (sweet, salt, sour, bitter/spicy) . Hope that helps a little,. Guest guest
Hi Lynda, I just bought a juicer last week and I've been juicing dinosaur kale. I also shop at MOMs. How do I identify wheat grass at MOMs so that I may purchase it and juice it?
