Guest guest
Why use a mid wife. I can locate one in your area. I know several in the Richmond area It would be best to avoid the hospital if you can. Or have it arranged for a natural birth in the hospital. . Guest guest
I've had 2 kids, and my advice is this: don't go to the hospital until the contractons REALLY hurt. At first, they will be like strong menstrual cramps, and the breathing exercises you learned in your childbirth class will work.I experienced the energy as peacefully enthusiastic and expectant-like a kid looking forward to going someplace special. A point will come when the energy and sensations will change. The breathing stops working, it hurts and you might start to get apprehensive and wonderwhat you got yourself into. this is completely natural. I also felt as if in an altered state of consciousness. This is when you should go. And remember, you don't have to do anything they tell you to. Will you have a partner, friend or relative who can advocate for you strongly and clearly? Chances are, you will not be in a frame of mind to argue with hospital staff, and you shouldn't have to, Your focus needs to be on your/your child's birth process. You should be allowed to go far inward and , if they start pushing drugs and invasive procedures, someone else should argue and fight for you who is thoroughly aware of your preferences. Do you have a birth plan in writing? It is very useful to have this 1)for your own sake 2) to go over your birthing partner with and 3)to hand to the midwife, OB and/or maternity nurse when you get there. Include EVERYTHING, even what may seem redundant. If you are worried about a slow labor, find an acupuncturist. They can get things moving real fast! But do it now, and find one who wouldn't mind " visiting " in the hospital. Also, most hospitals will have a nurse who does acupuncture for people who can't take anasthesia. My midwife brought one in for me when my 2nd boy's labor wasn't going anywhere. There is also a homeopathic remedy that the midwive's use, but I can't remember what it is. Blue cohosh is an oxytocic herb that is also useful, but please consult an herbalist before using. The herbs, remedies and acupuncture will become imperative if your water breaks and labor isn't forthcoming- they WILL want to induce you then... OK, I've gone on a bit. But one last thing: YOU CAN DO IT!!! YOu have a whole motherline before you that did it, too! Just trust your miraculous, beautiful life-giving body. If you want to talk, feel free to e-mail me off list. Blessings in abundance to you and your babe,
